In fact, I'm so inspired by some comments in this thread that I'm going to begin a letter-writing campaign, targeting every studio which makes horror films and demanding that they quit including gratuitous sexuality in their product. Just because thousands of college kids are drawn to Spring Break every year by the promise of parties, promiscuity, and hedonism doesn't mean that movies set during Spring Break should include those elements. After all, there is no place in horror for realism. Who needs a setting to be authentic and relatable in order to find the events on-screen frightening? PIRANHA 3-D, for example, would be far more frightening (and, more importantly, less offensive) if it were set in the Great Salt Lake in Utah, and all the bathers eaten by the piranha were conservatively dressed Mormons. Right? The movie would play huge in Salt Lake City! And slasher movies set during slumber parties, at sororities, etc., shouldn't feature any attractive, scantily clad females. Just because those types are part of real events of this nature doesn't mean they should be featured in movies centering on such events! College kids aren't interested in sex anyway, right? Similarly, summer camp settings don't need to include any females who might stir the prurient interests of prepubesecent/pubescent male campers. Sure, just about every real boy who's attended a real summer camp has experienced infatuation with a female camper or counselor at one time or another. But again, who needs realism in horror? I say enough is enough! Instead of playing to the interests of the target demographic for horror films, studios should go purely for wholesome, sanitized, utterly ineffensive entertainment. So I'm starting my crusade to clean up horror today! (And while I'm at it, I'm going to do some investigative work to find out who is making people read every news post on B-D everyday. It shocks and sickens me that some people apparently don't have the freedom to skip over articles about movies they aren't interested in seeing. I'm not sure how it's happening, but obviously some readers "have to" read about certain movies "everyday" on B-D, and I intend to find out who's forcing them at gunpoint to do so, and put a stop to it!)
