I missed the R.L. Stine boat by a few years, but from what I'm told they're pretty great. Today it was revealed that Furst Films has bought feature rights to Stine's The Sitter, centered on horror in the Hamptons. The story focuses on a young woman who takes a summer job as a nanny to a 4-year-old who hasn't spoken for months and is seemingly haunted by something too horrible for words (I'm dying to know what it is already). Siblings Sean Furst and Bryan Furst will produce along with longtime Stine collaborators Yvonne Bernard and Beth Hawk. Stine -- best known for penning the "Goosebumps" series -- will exec produce along with Jane Stine and Ann Blanchard. The Fursts produced Daybreakers for Lionsgate. The horror pic, starring Ethan Hawke and Willem Dafoe, opens Today.
GOOSEBUMPS was a great series for kids. A feature film version could be good if handled right. Otherwise, it could be just one more log on the hollywood dog-log pile...
I loved Goosebumps as a kid. I read all of them until I grew out of it, but as far as I know he kept writing. I would love to see what he could do with adult material that's no holds barred. But knowing him...
The shows were pretty awful. The books on the other hand were great. Especially the early ones before he became a household name. Great way to start the youngsters on horror at an early age... I probably had about 50 of them...
I was more a fan of his FEAR STREET books. some were really slasher books, i wonder why filmmakers never really made those books into R-rated films. :S
I loved R.L Stine and the babysitter series. the thought of a young girl watching a familys son out of the middle of the boondocks, while the husband and wife go to dinner and being terroized by someone that is a little closer to home. You will never guess in who the killer is haha!
I agree with Gore-Freak08. I read a lot of the Fear Street novels which were so good! Good question as to why they never made the Fear Street books into horror films. Broken Hearts and the Silent Night books were some I remember. He also did one called The Babysitter and there were 3 sequels after it. It actually would have been a good concept on film instead of the awful When a Stranger Calls remake.
Despite my childhood, lunatic fandom for Stine's books and now bizarre appreciation for the Goosebumps tv series (Katharine Isabelle fighting an evil sponge before her Ginger Snaps days?) I have no positive energy to offer here.
We could not get another terrible Goosebumps Wii game that I could ignore instead?
I'm with daysfan79 and Gore-Freak08...Bring on the Fear Street adaptations already! I used to devour those mini-Slasher masterpieces in one sitting. And, yeah, Broken Hearts and Silent Night were the first few I read. Also, why not adapt Lois Duncan (and keep them set in the 70s) and Christopher Pike too?
