Repossession Mambo vs Repo! The Genetic Opera. The war seems like it was so long ago, yet here we are awaiting the coming release (finally) of Repossession Mambo, now known as Repo Men. Directed by Miguel Sapochnik, and starring Jude Law, Forest Whitaker, Liev Schreiber, RZA, Alice Braga and Carice van Houten, this afternoon Universal Pictures released not only the official synopsis, official one sheet and first still, but also the trailer for the futuristic organ repossession thriller. Repo Men arrives in theaters April 2, 2010. Check out all of the goodies inside.

"In the futuristic action-thriller Repo Men, humans have extended and improved our lives through highly sophisticated and expensive mechanical organs created by a company called The Union. The dark side of these medical breakthroughs is that if you don’t pay your bill, The Union sends its highly skilled repo men to take back its property…with no concern for your comfort or survival.

Jude Law plays Remy, one of the best organ repo men in the business. But when he suffers a cardiac failure on the job, he awakens to find himself fitted with the company’s top-of-the-line heart-replacement…as well as a hefty debt. But a side effect of the procedure is that his heart’s no longer in the job. When he can’t make the payments, The Union sends its toughest enforcer, Remy’s former partner Jake (Academy Award® winner Forest Whitaker), to track him down.

Now that the hunter has become the hunted, Remy joins Beth (Alice Braga), another debtor who teaches him how to vanish from the system. And as he and Jake embark on a chase across a landscape populated by maniacal friends and foes, one man will become a reluctant champion for thousands on the run.

It looks exactly like a glossier more expensive less musical REPO! The Genetic Opera, which means I'm not interested.

though I do like both Law and Whitaker.

So it's not a remake of Repo Man? It's a rip off REPO! The Genetic Opera? I wonder what's going on it the minds of hollywood these days.

Wow, what a clever film. Certainly we've never seen anything like this before. It couldn't possibly be a horrible, blatant ripoff of anything that's already come out and been wonderful...

The premise in first half of the trailer looks similar to Repo!, but the second half looks completely different. It does look pretty good though. I think I'll check this one out.

Well, the rip-off nature of the movie kind of pisses me off. But, then again, we all know you can't copyright an idea, or camp slashers would have stopped in 1980. I wanted to hate this, especially after attending a screening and hearing the story about Universal's unethical move straight from Darren Bousman. I must say, though, the trailer looks pretty damned cool. Liev Schrieber looks hilarious, and the other performances look good as well. There's clearly no shortage on fast-paced action and organ-ripping violence. So, all-in-all, I have to say with some reservations, I want to see this. It does appear to be a very different take on the same story, and I don't think it devalues the completely unique experience that Repo! offers.

A screening of Repo! The Genetic Opera, that is. Not this movie.

HOLY SHIT this looks awesome!! i am totally in!! Repo totally sucked balls (and i LOVE Sarah Brightman too!) but this looks freaking fantastic! this looks anything but "generic & lame".

i hope there's a musical version in the bonus features of the dvd. just kidding.

Rip off but still looks rather entertaining maybe a less musical more action version with two great actors.

It looks like what Repo should've focused a on a little more... the actual organ reposessions... that was all I felt was lacking from Repo... that and a more climactic ending... I think it looks pretty damn cool... because as much as I wanted to like Repo... the shitty, shitty, shitty, acting really turned me off... and the only songs I can say I was a fan of were already shown in the previews... Bring on Repo Men.

I'll add though, the Repo will always win hands down in originality... while this just looks more entertaining...

This is complete shit. They basically just stole the plot from "Repo! The Genetic Opera" and presented it to the mainstream! Jerk-offs!

I know everyone is going to think this is a ripoff of Repo the Genetic Opera, but things tend to be more complicated than that in Hollywood. I read the script for Repossession Mambo eight years ago and it was awesome, more of a twisted dark and bloody comedy. Of course I'm not sure what the final film turned out like.

REPO! is on of my all time favorite films and I think this looks like a less musically sequel of some sort so I am pretty excited. Also I am pretty excited to see Jude Law and Forrest Whitaker as severe bad-ass'.

SpikeGhost

Fuck that i love Repo! and i'm not going to see that bullshit copy! Repo! is my second favorite movie ever. so yeah

I'm not fan of REPO! The Genetic Opera... But this is god-awful as a ripped-off, glossy, action version. Worst line in the whole trailer, "Gimmie your fuckin' heart!"... There's a razzie coming Liev Schreiber's way.
