A Look at the 'Predators' Home Planet

KNGB News is reporting that Troublemaker Studios recently used Canyon Lake Gorge in Texas as a backdrop for Predators, adding that the location will be used as a portion of the Predator's home planet in 20th Century Fox's Preadtor remake arriving in theaters July 9, 2010. "Specifically, they went to a spot that 10 years ago didn’t exist, but after flood of 2001, when water went over the spillway at Canyon Lake, a huge gorge was cut out of the landscape, and apparently the filmmakers thought the gorge was the perfect look to create an alien landscape," writes KNGB. In this version, a group of humans will find themselves stranded on a planet home to Predators and must survive the horrors they encounter. You can check out a look at the landscape below.

Directed by Nimrod Antal, Topher Grace, Adrien Brody, Walton Goggins, Alice Braga, Danny Trejo, Walt Goggins, Oleg Taktarov, Mahershalalhashbaz Ali, Louiz Ozawa and Derek Mears all star.

Yeah, well, it's close to Austin and accessible. Cost-wise, beats haulin' it all to Tunisia.

Pretty nice looking location for a Predator planet.

with all that camo shit that the predators wear, you'd think they were from a jungle type planet.

The Predator story has always been pretty slim, even in the original. I'm looking forward to them opening it up and giving us more.

They could make that area look like anything they want. They could just pimp it right out.

I already have my doubts about this since it has like danny trejo in it and such but why the fuck do we need to see their homeworld? Thats what makes the predators kind of cool that you dont know alot about them, they are little mysterious. I really hate it when movies feel they have to show and explain everything.

Why do folks in the press keep incessantly referring to this film as a "remake"? It's not. It's a sequel to the original. Perhaps Fox are planning on marketing the film as a franchise reboot or "re-imagining" to bring in the teens 'n' tweens, but anynone who's been paying attention knows that, in the eyes of the filmakers tackling this project, the film is intended to be a true follow-up to the original and to be official franchise cannon. Stop calling this thing a remake before somebody gets hurt, damn it!

Nice location! I'm glad that they appear to be making the Predator planet like a desert with some tropical jungle in it too. They are reptilian anyway. That's what was so stupid about AVP. A Predator in the Artic? I could only think, "They're cold-blooded Paul W.S. Anderson, ya douche!" It's good to see that they are at least making it look as it should due to their species. That's one thing that AVP-R got right.

ya you think it would be more of jungle type place but im sure the predators have more then one in planet under ther control

I know this is just a shot of a location, but this looks very promising, I just hope they stick with the classic look of the predators, i also hope Ian Whyte returns, he makes an awesome predator, next to the great Mr. Peter Hall. This looks like it may be kick ass after all! now lets pop those wristblades charge those plasma cannons and get going!

Just as long as they don't go with a backstory which explains the Predators kill because they had an abusive drunk stepfather and a stripper mom I think we'll be okay.

Tomasjarvis - you make a good point and you're 10% correct. I should have known better in my post. Its supposed to be a sequel, SUPPOSED to be.

Personally, I just can't over the fact that Eric from That 70s Show is going to be in this. And I'm sorry, I can't get excited about sandstone. I just can't.

What's with all this "I thought it would be a jungle, blah blah..." Seriously, does our planet have just one terrain? The idea of a "desert planet" or a "jungle planet" is pretty ridiculous, actually. Wouldn't a habitable planet be more likely to have a variety of habitats, just like Earth? So, they land in a rocky area. That doesn't mean there's no jungle on the horizon. I mean, the film did shoot for several days in Hawaii.

hegemon13 is right. The Predator homeworld is probably going to be as varied as Earth, hence it's not JUST going to be a desert world or jungle world. It's going to have both. deserts AND jungles.

How is it a sequel? None of the characters are returning from the original or second film from what I understand. Surely it's just a new Predator movie, labeling it is pointless.
