One of the biggest horror films to arrive in theaters in 2006 - and probably one of the best this decade - was Neill Marshall's claustrophobic The Descent. Those of you in the UK should consider yourselves lucky as on December 4th you'll be some of the first ever to witness Jon Harris' hotly anticipated sequel The Descent: Part 2. To get your blood pumping we've posted an exclusive world premiere clip from the film that features a head-stompin' gory clip from deep down in the terrifying cave. Check it out beyond the break and watch for info on a release here in the States when it's announced.
"Emerging from the cave system alone, distraught and covered in the blood of her missing companions, Sarah is incoherent and half-wild with fear. Sceptical about her account of events and convinced Sarah's psychosis hides far darker secrets, Sheriff Vaines (Gavan O’Herlihy) doesn’t waste time. Along with his partner Rios (Krysten Cummings), and their cave rescue team Dan (Douglas Hodge), Greg (Joshua Dallas), and Cath (Anna Skellern), Vaines forces Sarah back into the caves to help the rescuers find her friends."
I'm excited for this to come out but I just hope they don't give too much. The limited contact and fleeting glimpses were what made the first one so good. They don't have to over-expose them jut because it's a sequel.
i have to comment..."as good as the first"????? the FIRST MOVIE SUCKED!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! a bunch of actors nobodies heard of...the whole first half was boring!!!!! IT WAS NOT GREAT!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! this movie cant be any worse...so i suspect it has to be better. FIRST ONE SUCKED!
If this clip is anything to go by, this flick is shaping up to be as intense as the original. I think it could be great so long as they don't recycle the same scares from the first Descent. Oh, and that head squish was totally awesome and more than satiated by daily gore requirement.
Well, i just go to correct the fact that in UK they gonna be the first to see it since it was in Cinema in France on October 14th...really strange that it was released so early. Anyway, i'm in Ireland for this year so i haven't see it (no, i'm not gonna download it) but i've read the critics and obvisouly it's not as good as the first one. I loved the first one, can't wait to see this one.
The UK is not the first world premiere. The movie was in cinemas in Japan in the beginning of October. I saw it and my impression was positive (only the end left me puzzled, but seems there are 2 endings for this one too). I'm a fan of the first movie but I really liked this one too. Of course is not at the same level of the 1st but its a lot of fun!!!
i LOVE IT!! i admit when the rock drops on the creatures head, it looked kinda EXTREMELY fake but the suspense is there!! and i love the noise they make!! the states better not take forever to release this or it's "hello cam or dvd rip city".
holy shit, well i thought that they captured the claustrophobia aspect good, i think that it really looks good and just as suspenseful as the first one but it looks as if they just went about doing it in a different way. i really loved the first one also, this one looks as if its shaping up nicely. i had really low expectations for this movie for some reason so maybe thats why i'm so positive about it but nonetheless i liked the clip.
it looks pretty good, but there's too much light, and the SFX of the head being crushed is weird. i don't feel half as claustrophobic as i did watching the first one.
I was fortunate enought to be part of the first screening for this movie. I like it. It wasnt as good as the first one, but I knew it wouldnt be. Its worth a gander when it hits thearters.
Hmmm...can't put my finger on it, but something about that clip just felt infinitely less intense than any of the meaty parts of the original. Then again, a bit part of what made the original work was its pacing and buildup...so perhaps this clip would be scarier if seen in context of the entire film.
