Dimension Films to Remake 'The Amityville Horror'...Again?
Thursday, November 26, 2009

I just finished wiping away the tears of laughter as I just discovered that the Weinstein Company and Dimension Films are planning on remaking The Amityville Horror...again. Andrew Douglas directed the 2005 reboot produced by Platinum Dunes that grossed over $100m at the box office worldwide. I guess five years in the new 25? Our sources also tell us that there just might be a director already in talks to develop the project. Knowing Dimension Films, I'd expect this project to start and stop at least a dozen times before it ultimately fails. Alas horror fiends, don't stress it no matter how idiotic this sounds. The original 1979 film followed newlyweds as they move into a house where a murder was committed, and experience strange manifestations which drive them away. MGM also retains different rights and were planning on developing The Amityville Tapes, which has been put on the back burner while MGM figures out their financial woes (auction anyone?).

Personally, I think the funniest part of it all is that everything recorded and reported on was a lie. It's not even a true story.

Furthermore, I loved what they were planning with AMITYVILLE TAPES. I guess the only way to keep your company afloat these days is to remake remakes and keep your franchises going?

Remake of a remake...wow. Is our beloved genre really coming to this? I mean come on, this is absurd!!! I hope this doesn't happen.

You mean it's not the REAL story. Something really happened in that house, and the unfortunate Lutz family had to deal with it until their deaths. George died just a couple years ago and his wife died of cancer years before. The spent the rest of their lives and money on court and lawyers. As George would put it, the real horror started after they left the house. They lost everything. It's a shame that the studios keep putting out these films and continue to drag their name through the mud. In the end, I'm sure this project will never happen. And for that, I am very thankful. If the Weinsteins are going to remake after a remake, reboot Halloween correctly you asshats!

Nothing happened. I'm a hard skeptic when it comes to the supernatural. I doubt that anything happened to the Lutz's. And if something were to had happened, I'm very positive it could easily be explained if someone else outside of the family encountered it as well. They're just out to make a quick buck.

Please tell me this is a fucking joke cause it's the best joke I've heard in a long time .

this can't be true

The sewing room in the house had a window that would open on it's own. It freaked everyone who investigated until one person in the group checked and found that the weights on the window where pulled everytime someone stepped on a specific part of a floorboard. No ghosts it was a fake story.

How the hell do you people know it was a lie? Were you there? You obviosuly haven't done any research on the subject, because the entire Lutz family stood by their claims to the very end. There were reports that it was an admitted hoax, but they were false. The Lutz family stood by their story. Yes, Ronnie Defeo's lawyer (the guy that killed his family) said it was a hoax, but this was only after he got pissed off at the Lutz family for not publishing their story with him. And BUSHIEHATE08: Where is your source for this claim? Where did you hear this? I want a link.

Lol you can't even get angry at something like this.

LOL...Penhall, you get angry at people who claim it's a lie and demand evidence, but how is that different from what the non believers are wanting? Don't be so quick to believe in something just because it's fantastical and creepy fun. I have a feeling YOU are the one who hasn't researched the topic thoroughly before. The priest said nothing ever happened, the lawyer said it was made up, the children have never spoken about the subject, and no evidence was ever recorded...the only people who claimed it was true, were the one's who benefited financially from the book sales! Where is truth in THAT? How do you know it wasn't a lie? "Were YOU there?"

Show me hard evidence this actually happened (or that ANY supernatural activity exists) and I will gladly eat my words with some fava beans and a nice chiante.

7:28am, November 26, 2009

Well, probably they want to remake the movie into a "Paranormal Amityville Activity" thingie! Anyway, remaking a remake sounds pretty desperate though.

has this ever happened before? A remake of a remake?

FuMikechu
7:57am, November 26, 2009

actually, if Dimension or TWC wants to stay in business, they need to follow up Inglourious Basterds (their biggest hit) with a prequel or something. Bring on: THE DIRTY BASTERDS maybe Quentin can keep TWC afloat while Dimension churns out 2nd degree remakes. Actually, if Halloween 3D happens, I'd rather see that as a remake than a follow up to the Zombie films. I'd much rather see a 3D version of the first Halloween night than a sequel trying to clean up Rob Zombie's mess.

Wow. Remake of a remake. Nexus of the universe stuff right there. If you believe the claims of the Lutz family that's fine. I am convinced it was all bullshit. There are admitted(by either or both of the Lutzs) fabrications in the book. There is zero evidence. I have read much on this subject because it is actually a fascinating story.

i honestly think the Weinsteins are determined to ruin themselves worse than they have. for example, THE ROAD opens today and here in Seattle they have done NO promotion for it. NONE. not one tv spot. nothing. they are just bizarrely and desperately running their business. (if that's what you want to call it).

Oh sure, release AMITYVILLE: THE RE-MAKE'S RE-BOOT parts 1 thru 15, what the hell! Dumbfucks! And the AMITYVILLE TAPES?? Why not? Meanwhile, THE POUGHKEEPSIE TAPES languishes in limbo...

ttop33
9:33am, November 26, 2009

Well Mr. Disgusting I'm sure they could've made a sequel if Platinum Dunes didn't do such a piss poor job with the remake. Where do you go after that crap cg fest?? I'm sure if Platinum Dunes was remaking the remake you would be psyched for it "Cant imagine why". It's funny that TCM another film Platinum Dunes did a crap job with is also possibly getting remade again. Is there a trend starting? Are studios trying to put the pieces together after Platinum Dunes comes in and shamelessly rapes all these films for the quickest possible buck? without any care or passion for making a good horror movie. Then right onto the next franchise to kill. So your laughing it up because the guys you promote constantly destroyed a story to the point where it cant be salvaged into a franchise?

BrotherofTears

Even though I don't believe the house was really haunted, the book is still amazing and scary. The only way I'd want to see it adapted to film again is if Dimension sells the rights and it's made into a 3-4 hour miniseries (Not on SyFy Channel though) so they could make it much closer to the book.

We're all hardened horror fans...Let's kill some of these motherfuckers! Remakes are bad enough...Remakes of remakes put me on the warpath!

wow really? i mean is hollywood just that much out of new ideas maybe i need to switch professions cause theres a new horror film that runs through my mind everyday its called life i guess the future of horror does lie with the france and japan

NixEclips

The dude that wrote the book put out a "fiction" novel, as well. It was utter trash. He had no talent, the Lutz's had no money, the house isn't haunted. The people that have lived there, since, have reported no problems.

bushiehate08
1:06pm, November 26, 2009

I don't have a link to the opening window story, it was included in an interview in one of the documentaries.

Demented D
1:14pm, November 26, 2009

It's BS. If there was something wrong with that house, don't you think there would still be activity to this day? Not one family that has lived in that house since has reported any paranormal activity.
