Update: Dread Central has some disheartening news. One of the all-time greatest horror novels and feature films, The Shining, could be headed to sequel territory, so says author Stephen King. Following a 15-minute reading of King's latest book, "Under the Dome", legendary director David Cronenberg hosted a special Q+A with the author who revealed to the audience that he plans on writing a sequel to "The Shining" entitled "Doctor Sleep."
"Then King dropped a fan bombshell on the crowd by casually describing a novel idea he began working on last summer," writes Toronto IST. "Seems King was wondering whatever happened to Danny Torrance of The Shining, who when readers last saw him was recovering from his ordeal at the Overlook Hotel at a resort in Maine with fellow survivors Wendy Torrance and chef Dick Halloran (who dies in the Kubrick film version). King remarked that though he ended his 1977 novel on a positive note, the Overlook was bound to have left young Danny with a lifetime’s worth of emotional scars. What Danny made of those traumatic experiences, and with the psychic powers that saved him from his father at the Overlook, is a question that King believes might make a damn fine sequel.
So what would a sequel to one of King’s most beloved novels look like? In King’s still tentative plan for the novel, Danny is now 40 years old and living in upstate New York, where he works as the equivalent of an orderly at a hospice for the terminally ill. Danny’s real job is to visit with patients who are just about to pass on to the other side, and to help them make that journey with the aid of his mysterious powers. Danny also has a sideline in betting on the horses, a trick he learned from his buddy Dick Hallorann.
The title for King’s proposed sequel? Doctor Sleep."
noooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooo
fuck offffffffff...
u already got a crappy shining remake with that guy from 'wings' ... go and masturbate over twilight series... why there are no more fresh ideas ??
noooooooooooooooooo
stupid fucking cunts... final destination 4 , hatchet 2, hostel 2, saw 'fuck knows i lost the count' one, scream 4......... jesus fucking christ... Swayze's dead, why is it always the good ones that die ?? and Eli Roth's kind of guys keep on living & making crappy movies ??
That actually sounds really interesting. I would definitely buy/read it. Bring it on King! I've read everything else you've done and you've never (well, almost) disappointed me!
I'm sure if King is really gonna do a sequel, it will be pretty awesome, his track record speaks for itself. But I'm still shocked he disliked Kubrick's film. Even if he left out some details, he created one of the great horror films EVER. Don't even get me started about Weber's performance compared to Nicholson's. Should never be a debate.
Horrible title. I guess the premise is ok, but there are other people with The Shining. I think if they are going to go down that road, tell a new story about someone else dealing with the power. Oh well.
I look forward to a sequel. This definitely would peak my interest & I’d read it.
Plus, think of the great things they could do with a psychic story and revisit the Overlook on Film!
I would rather this be a book than as a film, so this news does not upset me at all. Only problem for me here is that King's writing nowadays is rather dry and dull so I am not sure he can pull this off right.
I wouldn't worry too much about this, zajcev80, you friggin' dumbass. Obviously, you can't read particularly well anyway, since you seem to have completely missed the fact that this news item is about a novel, not a movie. If you can't make it through three or four paragraphs without completely misunderstanding, misinterpreting, and just plain missing what is being discussed, you probably shouldn't even try to read a 400-page book.
I was at the King reading for UTD in St Paul and he mentioned Dr. Sleep. From what i remember, King said that eventhough he is interested in the idea...he believes the time frame for him to write this story is either passed or expired. He didn't sound completely closed to the novel, but he told the audience that he believes some of his ideas have an exp. date and it could have come and gone for DR SLEEP.
Ease up, zajcev80. Nobody's forcing you to buy a ticket. Why not find a nice girl & try to build a life?
