Earlier this morning we told you that Adam Green would be returning to write and direct Hatchet 2 for Anchor Bay Entertainment. We just hopped on the phone with Green, who is not only busy prepping the gory sequel, but also working on the release of his thriller Frozen (confirmed to hit theaters on February 5, 2010). Beyond the break you'll find who is returning, along with more details on Victory Crowley's upcoming massacre.
After announceing Green's return to the director's chair, we caught up with him to chat briefly about HATCHET 2, which begins lensing this coming January in Los Angeles, CA.
First and foremost, Green agreed to return because Anchor Bay agreed to let him make the sequel he wants, and not a broader film.
In addition, Green plans on doubling the body count. Makeup effects coordinator Robert Pendergraft (face rip kill) returns and promises a new, improved look for Victory Crowley.
Horror icon Kane Hodder is confirmed to return as Victor Crowley/Mr. Crowley, with Tony Todd returning as Reverend Zombie and John Carl Buechler as Jack Cracker.
A new addition to the cast is R.A. Mihailoff, who plays Leatherface in Leatherface: Texas Chainsaw Massacre III.
Unfortunately, Marybeth (originally played by Tamara Feldman) is being recast. "We're going in a different direction and will announce our new hero very soon as it's someone we are overjoyed to bring into our family," says Green.
Cinematographer Will Barratt returns along with original producers Sarah Elbert and Cory Neal.
HATCHET 2 follows Marybeth as she escapes from the clutches of Victor Crowley, learns the truth about his curse, and heads back into the haunted New Orleans swamp to seek revenge for her family and kill Victor Crowley once and for all...
i hope the new protag is going to be good (Tamara was pretty good!). that's the problem of waiting 3000 years to do a sequel, guys. i ONLY liked part 1 for the gore. i thought Crowley was corny (the way he moved and whatnot) and the story dragged at the beginning before the good stuff got started. i hope part 2 is a bit more tight.
Hmm, I wonder if it's Danielle Harris. She said this on her twitter:
"I've got a secret:) Can't wait to share what my next movie might be. You guys are gonna shit! Fingers crossed and I'll let ya know soon!"

I hope so, that would rock if DH was the lead. I didn't mind Tamara Feldman but she kind of annoyed me after awhile.
Thanks for the good news Mr. D!
SkaryMoviez: I was thinking the same thing! That would be sweet!! Her and Adam also had a little "meeting" a few weeks ago according to her Twitter as well...
Tamara probably isn't returning because of fucking scheduling conflicts. Robert Englund and Melissa George didn't return for their sequels (2001 Maniacs and 30 Days of Night) for that reason and now Tamara. How I hate these scheduling conflicts.
On the other hand this sounds like a shit load of fun and we are getting Hodder back so that is good.
Awesome all back Adam, Kane & Tony except for Tamara but that's OK, Though who ever Green is talking about to be the new Hero hopefully is a good & Hot Actress. Ya i agree Danielle Harris would be great for this role.
The more I think about it, Danielle Harris makes a lot of sense. Did anyone ever see the Fear Festival shorts that Green did where he starts making out with Danielle and then she says in Joe Lynch's voice that she has a dick? Hilarious! But they are clearly friends. Oh shit now my hopes are up. Damn you boards!
If they cant get the original actress, then don't bring her back at all... I always hate it when movies recast for the same characters. Takes away from the belief.
prettyboi_1030 "JUST PLEASE LEAVE OUT THE C0MDEDYY" - Why leave it out? That's kind of what made the film carry itself. Not a fan of Nightmare on Elm St or Friday the 13th films? Adam is..
Taem exactly my thoughts, the comedy is what made the first one so awesome. It's a great send up of slasher conventions while (in my opinion) being a great slasher itself. CAN'T WAIT!
I fucking hate it when movies recast major roles.
But I hated the actress in the first, so I'm all for it.
