'The Crow' Reboot Will Be Something Completely Different

I love The Crow, and it will always have a special place in my heart, but I just can't hide the fact that I'm excited as all hell for a franchise reboot. It took 15 years, but Alex Proyas' adaptation of James O'Barr's comic is straight up dated. This afternoon io9 caught up with Ryan Kavanaugh, the man producing the remake being penned by Stephen Norrington.

In the original comic, a man brutally murdered comes back to life as an undead avenger of his and his fiancée's murder.

"It's not a remake it's literally a relaunch of the franchise," Producer Ryan Kavanaugh reveals to io9 during an interview for his forthcoming film Brothers.

He adds that the make-up will also be very different and uses Batman as a comparison.

"No, totally different... He'll have makeup, but it will be different. The best way to compare it is the first 'Batman' and 'Batman Begins'. In terms of their look and feel and character."

While the project has yet to be greenlit, things are progressing well.

"Yeah we're still tweaking it, but it's finished," he says of the script. "We're very excited about it. The Crow is definitely going to happen, we're just getting all the pieces together right now. It's not officially greenlit, but it's going to happen... I think in a couple months we could have the package together for sure."

I might be in the minority, but I'm looking forward to this. It would be could to make him more like The Punisher type instead of some reject from Hot Topic.

No matter how you look at it, its a remake based on James O'Barr's comic.

well i love the original, but if they don't try to remake it but actually base themselves on the comic books this could be good. still it has to be dark and try to built a mood, something that will make it different from movies like The Punisher or others

I usually agree with Mr. Disgusting, but I disagree that the original is dated. I think that it has always been even better than it's cult status. Brandon Lee will always be Eric Draven. I just can't see this reboot being anything special. I hope that I am proven wrong.

"I just can't hide the fact that I'm excited as all hell for a franchise reboot" I'm glad I'm not alone.

The original isn't dated at all. I watched it again recently and it still holds up. This has fail written all over it.

And how different can the make up be. His look is iconic. What, are they going to paint a big red happy smile on him ?

Detroit isn't as much as a shit hole of crime anymore as it was in the original crow. plus it is kinda of dated int effects brandon lee will always be known as the crow kind of like Kevin Conroy as the voice of batman and mark hamil(yes luke skywalker for all of you who don't know) as the voice of the joker. however the make up can change since it dose look very bad now a days they could atleast retouch it but keep it basically the same, use Zorn and thorn from FF9 as a example of what to do as basic retouch to MAKE UP ONLY http://www.ffcompendium.com/art/9-zorn-a.jpg

The graphic novel is a classic - and so is the original movie, imo, which I personally don't find dated. I hope they stay true to the original source material. And for fuck sake, no PG-13 shit!!!

Im keen for it,but it wont surpass the original,I think saying its a 'batman begins' is loading the hype-train up abit.

I can appreciate that they're trying to do something different than the original, but without that surreal gothic kind of atmosphere, something tells me this is going to end up like another "gritty" vigilante revenge movie like The Punisher or Death Sentence. Still, I don't think anyone has a right to complain given the shittiness of every one of the Crow sequels.

Realism = boring. I liked Burton's Batman over Batman Begins. So sue me.

why people are no more capable to do something original on their own ideas?

The Crow soundtrack has got to be one of the all time best. Brandon Lee owned that role. That said, I don't mind this idea.

I feel this reboot is kinda neccesary. The original is one of my favorite films of all time, and I disagree that it feels dated- I watched it about a week ago (for the 800th time), and aside from one or two effects, the movie held up remarkably well. The screwed up "City of Angels" richeously (why haven't they at least released the alternate cut that supposedly exists? It sounds a little bit better than the mess they have out now), and while it had potential, "Salvation" was only OK in the end. Plus... "Wicked Prayer"?! Ugh! That movie offended me, it was so poorly done. At this point, a reboot is really all they can do to revitalize the series if they don't want it to descend into oblivion. Although I don't like the sound of a "totally different" makeup... That sounds a bit... wrong to me.

wow. i didnt know they kept making The Crow films after the 2nd one. *which was CRAP too. so glad i missed pts. 3 and 4. they must have been GARBAGE. I am excited for this remake, just dont give us the original The Crow with new faces. darken that shit out.

Looking forward to this. Love the original book and movie, but pretty much loathed all the sequels in the movies, comics, and books. This can't be any worse, and if they are using O'Barr's original then it has promise.

I'm a massive fan of the original and City of Angels and news of this 'reboot/remake' saddens me tbh... If a new Crow film has to exist, then it's about time we saw a female heroine.

the original crow is one of my favorite movies I think they should just leave it laone

I can't believe this shit, why would Hollywood want to remake such a cult classic? Like his famous dad Bruce, Brandon put his blood sweat and tears in this movie. He's been into kung fu since his was in his mom's womb!! Some actor who will get to do 8 weeks of kickboxing wouldn't amount to what Brandon put in The Crow. I am totally against this movie being remade.

I just saw the original "The Crow" yesterday. I'm always in the throng waiting to see how someone else would envision and portray a new "The Crow." I love to view an older version with a newer version for the comparison effect.
