"The Shield" writer John Hlavin has been hired to pen the fourth installment in Screen Gems/Lakeshore's Underworld franchise, writes the Heat Vision Blog. Len Wiseman, who directed the first two films in the vampire-vs.-werewolf saga, is producing with Gary Lucchesi, Tom Rosenberg and Richard Wright of Lakeshore. Kate Beckinsale, who starred in the first two movies, has not cut a deal to return to the series (which we've confirmed is absolutely untrue); the third pic, a prequel, starred Rhona Mitra, who also has no deal. The fourth film does not have a director attached. Hlavin said the plot is under wraps, "but I can tell you it's not a prequel." He added, "It will satisfy old fans and excite new audiences, meaning that we don't want to redo the first three movies, so steps are being taken to honor what fans have loved but at the same time introduce fresh elements." The horror-action series has been successful for Screen Gems and Lakeshore, scaring up nearly $300 million worldwide. The sequel is set to hit theaters January 21, 2011 in 3-D.
I'm not against 3D but hearing all this news about everything coming out in 3D is a little too much, even for a guy like me. Still, fingers crossed for a good sequel. By the way, isn't there any chance for a new (and better than the 3rd) Blade film to come out? I guess not since Goyer is too busy with other Mega-budget films lined up but it's sad because the Blade films were classics compared to the "copycat" Underworld series. But we all know Snipes needs a new sequel REALLY bad like Van Damm made the new Universal Soldiers.
Cool looking forward to the 4th film, I'm glad to see its a sequel but i did enjoyed all 3 underworld films, it would be cool if Kate Beckinsale and also Scott Speedman return and continue the story lines and pick up after Evolution, Well if there's any story left to tell?. But either way Kate Beckinsale is so fucking hot but so is Rhona Mitra.
i love all 3 too but i REALLY hope the story will focus on Kate again. and i refuse (at this point) to believe that this will be in 3D. in that interview w/ Kate for WHITEOUT she even said that the 3D thing was completely untrue. so fingers crossed!
This could be pretty interesting if any of you have watched the shield in all its balls out gritty glory..it will definately be interesting to see what they do with underworld, bigger budget and all so we shall see....hopin for the best depending on who they cast as well
I love the Underworld movies and I can't wait for the 4th. Please, please, please have Amelia in it as a main character, I really want to find out more about her. But please don't make it 3D, I'm so sick of this 3D crap.
