Larry Fessenden Exits 'The Orphanage' Remake

Sad news from the set of Dark Sky Films' Stake Land where producer-turned-actor/director Larry Fessenden was on hand to promote the film. Back in August it was revealed that Fessenden would be helming a remake of The Orphanage for New Line Cinema and Guillermo del Toro. It appears the dream is dead. "THE ORPHANAGE was two years of waiting," Fessenden tells AITH. "Working on the script with Guillermo was a very exciting experience, but then I got into a casting miasma and that's where the thing is; I think they're gonna do it another way, actually. So I think I'm out of it. Hopefully they'll still use my script, but I'm not sure I'm directing it anymore. That's Hollywood for ya." Click the link for more.

There is nothing I would change about The Orphanage... most movies, even if I love them, I'm at least half interested in what they would do with it in a remake (even though it usually goes without saying that it will be crap)... Same goes for Pan's Labyrinth... there's nothing to add... the original is perfect.

Rambo, i completely agree with you. imo THE ORPHANAGE is pretty much a perfect film. there's nothing i would change about it (same thing goes for LET THE RIGHT ONE IN...the movie is perfect IMO).

They really shouldn't remake this. The original was deemed good enough to get a US release, even with subtitles, so leave it alone. Even though I generally have no problem with remakes, the original was a great flick that doesn't need to be retold, at least not just a couple years after it came out.

ditto ditto ditto ditto. enough already with the remakes, they are either butchering amazing films or trying to glamour up bad films. just write new ones, done.

I agree that this is a movie that doesn't need remaking... but I am also impressed with Fessenden's work, and I could imagine this remaking being good. That's too bad.
