'The Exorcist' Miniseries Reteams Original Writer/Director?

In an interview with Cemetery Dance magazine, The Exorcist author William Peter Blatty revealed some interesting news about a potential Exorcist revival. When asked if he'd change anything in the original film, he replied with something quite interesting. "Yes and no. I would love to have been able to include the subplot involving Karl and his daughter Elvira which I did in my first draft, but that script ran to 172 pages, much, much too long. But I might have it my way in the near future, inasmuch as I've written an Exorcist miniseries script that not only faithfully includes all the main elements of the novel, but also some rather spooky new material and scenes, as well as a totally new (and perhaps much more satisfying) ending. I've also updated it. Billy Friedkin has agreed to direct." William Friedkin directed the 1973 Exorcist that pushed the boundaries of film by having a young girl possessed by the (supposed) Devil.

You see... The ending is what makes the original awesome. Why change it? The priest is possessed, and rather than have this thing continue to thrive, he jumps out the window committing suicide to end it all. But in effect suicide is an ultimate "Don't" in religion. So evil ultimately wins. Shit like that is fucked up and creepy and makes you think. Why change it? Also, Part 2 sucked so hard. And it's a shame 3 never gets any credit. That was such a good movie that stands on it's own.

1 and 3 are in my all time top 10. The scene with the shears kicks so much ass. I'm dying to see what new creepy stuff they have to offer.

I also thought Exorcist III equaled the first. It had major suspence, shock value, enough to keep your eyes glued to the screen for fear of what you'd miss out on. Definitely an underrated classic.

So now there going to revive it, with about 3 other Exorcist movies coming out, what the hell.

I agree. Exorcist III > Exorcist 1

Why do they think the original ending was unsatisfying? I think it was perfect! I hope they're not wanting to turn it into some huge, over blown effects ending. It's The Exorcist, not The Haunting!

I'm thoroughly excited for this... although it will kind of depend on where this miniseries airs... hopefully Showtime or HBO. I can't wait though... Exorcist I and III are the only good ones, and that's because they came from William's amazing mind, so there's a great chance this will be spectacular.

I think if the original guys are doing it than im more than happy if they redid it..maybe the fact theyve had years to think about what they would add will make something special again kinda like Ridley Scott coming back to do the new ALIEN movie...and i realized i suck at life as a horror fan because i havent seen the 3rd one..i saw the second one and thought it was so horrendous that the 3rd one wouldnt be worth DICK..when i get back home next week i will watch it..thank u fellow horror nuts

well Feleron, prepare to be shocked at how a series can bounce back from a shitty assed part II and deliver an ass kicking part III. I honestly and truly hope that the rumors are true about WPB trying to release a director's cut of Exorcist III, would love to see that.

more Exorcist? fuck yes! the original is my favorite movie of all time, and part III is great aswell! that's in my top 50 movies list :) this is great news, but i don't know how the ending could be anymore satisfying, everything about the original is damn perfect! im pretty keen to see this miniseries though!

No thank you. You mess with the ending, you ruin everything. 1 & 3 rule.

WTF? She was NOT possessed by the Devil. She was possessed by the demon Pazuzu. Wait, is Pazuzu THE Devil Devil, Lucifer? Blah, nvm.

Only on Showtime or HBO and it will sound good. I'd be fine with that.

An EXORCIST mini-series could work if, as has been stated, it is on a subscription cable network like HBO or SHOWTIME. Can you imagine this on no-pay channels like TNT, SYFY, or ABC / NBC / CBS? What a fucking joke that would be! "THE EXORCIST is brought to you by the latest Chronic Dry Eye / Restless Leg Syndrome treatment." Let us pray to the dark lord this is handled correctly...

Gee, everyone is so "positive energy" about this. This script was done over 10years ago and nothing came of it. You turn "THE EXORCIST" in a mini-series and your fucking with "A Class-Act". Either for the theaters with Friedkin or nuthin'... Blatty is getting senile...he's NEVER happy with ANYTHING!! He's been milking this for all it's worth for over 30years now... LEGION sucked big-time, it's retarded...so is this idea.
