i live in fairbanks and this is all over the paper. it only looks like that in southeast alaska. i 've lived in ketchikan, juneau and fairbanks. i plan to move to anchorage next summer. if you ever visit alaska- go to anchorage. the most beautiful parts are anchorage and south of anchorage.its like an arctic atlanta. you have little shopping choices elsewhere. at least anchorage does'nt feel like the boonies where you're lucky to have a walmart. it gets all texas flat in the interior- and i miss the bald eagles, orcas, bears, stellar jays, mountains, belugas etc. fairbanks kinda sucks. can't wait till spring to move. right now it's dark by 4 and in the teens. and i still have -40 degrees to look forward to. it'll get to a point where i only 3 hrs of cloudy sun a day. definately looking forward to anchorage!
