'The Dark Tower' Adaptation Erodes

it was big news for us horror fans when J.J. Abrams (Cloverfield producer) revealed he was adapting Stephen King's "The Dark Tower" with "Lost" collaborator Damon Lindelof. While back in May they were all over the project, which is a series of seven books that incorporate themes from multiple genres, including fantasy fiction, science fantasy, horror and western elements, it now looks as if J.J. Abrams has moved on.

"You'll be hard-pressed to find a huger fan of The Dark Tower than me, but that's probably the reason that I shouldn't be the one to adapt it," Abrams tells USA Today. "After working six years on Lost, the last thing I want to do is spend the next seven years adapting one of my favorite books of all time. I'm such a massive Stephen King fan that I'm terrified of screwing it up."

He continues, "I'd do anything to see those movies written by someone else. My guess is they will get made because they're so incredible. But not by me."

I'd give my left nut, and sell my soul to be the one to adapt this masterpiece. These films need to be made!

NOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOO!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! !!! Oh well. I guess that means that I can be perfectly content with my vision of the series. The movie cant screw up my vision if it's never made... If they were to make it though, they need Frank Darabont. No one adapts King's work more faithfully than him, yet King turned him down years ago on this one. Oh well.

Perhaps it's best that this isn't adapted...at least for now. I doubt that any film or tv adaption could capture the spirit of the books. I'm a big fan of the series (I even named my dog Roland)and I'd hate to see someone screw it up.

I hadn't heard about this proposal at all but damn if I'm not seriously disappointed now. I love the Dark Tower series. Hope this gets done someday.

This will be tough to adapt to the big screen for anybody.I loved the series and I hope they take their time.Abrams would of been a good choice.

This could be cool if they did it in the style of animation that they did Beowulf! If they tryed Live Action the budget would have to be huge. And I'm sure they'll try to make it 3D!

I've said it before and I'll say it again...This should be a TV series. Each season a book and each episode a chapter..Or something along those lines
