Even while there is no writer or director attached at this time, Dimension Films is still looking to get their 3D remake of Hellraiser off the ground. They offered the following synopsis at this week's AFM. "The re-telling of Clive Barker's classic horror masterpiece. Based on Barker's critically acclaimed novella "The Hellbound Heart," Hellraiser tells the story of an unfaithful wife who attempts to assist her dead lover in his escape from hell. Having lost his earthly body to a trio of forsaken demons - lead bby one of the most enduring horror characters of all time, Pinhead - he must force his former mistress to bring him the necessary human sacrifices to complete his body. Clive Barker's Hellraiser promises to be a terrifying journey into the darkest corners of the soul."

I would be interested in this if- A) Clive Barker writes the screenplay and directs it. B) It has minimal to no cgi. C) They kill the fucking 3D bullshit already!...

I'm willing to bet this will be one of the worst remakes ever.

Just saw the original last night, I really think this has the potential to be pretty good but it could really be shitty as well

I would definitely be interested if Clive Barker was actively involved, however, based on what I've heard about the project so far that doesn't seem likely.

no, not in 3D!

Not another 3D film....yawn. I thought Barker was involved in this as an actual writer?

This is one franchise that definitely does not need to be 3D. F13, Elm Street, and Halloween sure, but not Hellraiser. Clive Barker's work deserves better than this. Get back the director of Martyrs to do this thing. I don't care how long you have to wait. Give this to someone who actually gets the material and not just a guy looking for opportunities for 3D gore.

I totally agree on the 3D idea being *awful* for Hellraiser. 3D is meant for cheezy horror that isn't supposed to be taken seriously--like My Bloody Valentine with the pic axe to the head. A movie based on pleasure and pain doesn't need that kind of gimmick.

I am not going to say fuck this yet because 1) There is no writer or director, though I don't ever reading that Martyrs director had left the project which makes me sad and 2) There is no telling how plans will change in the future. I personally think that if Dimensions is smart, they will, like a lot of you say, lose the 3D idea. Hellraiser is not meant for 3D, neither is Halloween 3 or Nightmare on Elm Street...okay maybe Halloween 3 because Zombie is no longer attached and I can tell it's going to become a "fun" horror film (blah) but not Nightmare because it actually looks like it is trying to be taken seriously. I also think that Dimension hires somebody they know will stay true to the material Clive Barker wrote more than twenty years ago, somebody like Alex Aja or Darren Lynn or hell, convince Clive to recreate his baby. But I am hoping the best for this film.

I hope the best but expect nothing - the original could certainly be improved upon, yet I don't expect it to be because Hollywood just doesn't get it nor does the average horror fan. There is a great idea in "The Hellbound Heart", yet it will be just another 'Pinhead' movie and will be average at best. I hate to rate movies that are not made but how much can we expect? If the original never had a truly great sequel ( Hellraiser II: Hellbound was good but not great, the other sequels blew )then what can we possibly expect from a remake?

If they can't find a director then just hire Clive. He created the bloody story !!

Be careful what you wish for werd5150. This is my favorite story of all time, but It dosen't need remade. The 1988 verson has everything you need Clive Barker,Doug Bradley a great story and teriffic effects (no cgi). Im sick of everyone just trying to make a buck on established storys. Its similar to trying to break in with a band at this time the record companys are in trouble and are only shelling out money for bands LIke Metallica.

I'm still leary on the reboot of Hellraiser based on most of the crappy remakes being forced down your throat by hollywood these recent years; however w/ the CGI effects that can be added to the appearance of the Hellraiser monsters why not give the reboot a chance. Til this present day if you watch 1987's Hellraiser the blood & gore is still way too gross to look at; especially the skinless guy. Definately a movie you CAN'T eat & watch.

I was hoping they would follow a different storyline - we've all seen Frank & Julia etc etc... this won't work with the same storyline - whats the point? Also, this should not be done without Doug Bradley.

usually Clive is really involved in the films that are based on his works so,i hope that the same story here.

Jason2009

If Doug Bradley wont return as Pinhead then I wont even bother to watch this. I mean I love all the original horrorfilms from the Halloween, Friday the 13th, Nightmare on Elm Street or Hellraiser (although I admit that in Hellraiser 5-8 I only watch the Pinhead-scenes lol) but I really like almost all of the remakes so far as well. I like it that they make the remakes modern and tell the basic story of the originals in new ways that deviate from the originals. In my opinion the more the style of a remake differs from the original, the better. cause if I want to see the same movie again, I watch my DVDs. Its just important that they keep the basic story, character and elements of the original but I actually really like it if it goes in directions you have never seen in the original. As a big fan of superhero comic books this is very familiar to me. In the comics often you have the same story sometimes re-told in a complete new way, basically rebooting the story and creating a whole new continuity. Like the Ultimate-series of Marvel or DCs Elseworlds comics. You just gotta accept the fact that its the same story and character but a NEW way. Like an alternative version. And so basically you have two versions of the same story then. the original version and the re-told, alternative versions. And you dont compare which one is better cause the alternative version is not created to replace the original. And thats how I see the remakes as well. They dont exist to replace the originals so its so damn stupid how SO MANY people feel that the remakes offend "their" sacred originals. They dont. They dont change one thing about the greatness of the originals, they simply create a new, alternative version of the story and create a new continuity. And because in my eyes they are a different, alternative version of the story I want them to differ in style and details of the story from the originals. I would be furious if the remakes would just try to copy the originals cause that would not only be a doomed attempt (the originals are unique and always will be) but a downright insult to the originals. But thankfully most remakes didnt do that. Remakes like Dawn of the Dead, Last House on the Left, Texas Chainsaw Massacre, Friday the 13th or Halloween were very different from their originals in style and details but at the same time kept the basic elements, characters and the basic story from the originals. While many, many, many people bash the remakes like hell for doing this, I praise them for that and instead I would bash them if they would only try to copy and therefore replace the originals (which would be a huge failure anyway). Thats why I enjoyed most of the remakes highly. Because I do not compare them to the originals. Because I embrace the idea that they are alternative versions of these stories that are supposed to be different from the originals. But there are lines even the remakes shouldnt cross. One is of course that they just have to keep the trademark characters and elements, another that the basic story needs to remain the same and that you definitely still recognize the originals in them. And then when it comes to certain franchises like Hellraiser where one actor has defined the role of the killer/monster SO much like Doug Bradley has with Pinhead you just CANT replace him with another actor. I mean it was really very close to crossing the line with Freddy in the Nightmare remake. But it still is possible to not ruin the movie with it. But in the case of Pinhead if you replace Doug Bradley you end up with a movie that looses all the credibility of a Hellraiser movie. It will inevitably -no matter how brilliant the movie itself may be- look like a cheap copy of Pinhead and could never come across as the "real" Pinhead. Dougs presence, aura, voice is just TOO unique as Pinhead. No matter how amazing the movie would be, replacing Doug as Pinhead would cross the line and make it only watchable for those who have never seen a Hellraiser movie before in their life. So if they keep Doug I will gladly give this remake its chance, but if they replace him the franchise has ended for me with Hellworld. With regards, Jason2009

The way I see it: Robert Englund is Freddy Freddy is Robert Englund Doug Bradley is Pinhead Pinhead is Doug Bradley Brad Dourif is Chucky Chucky is Brad Dourif without them, the remakes just suck when it comes to those certain kinds. I am still not seeing the nightmare on elm street remake no matter what but I do have high hopes for the child's play one because of brad still with the crew. I just hope Doug Bradley will still be playin Pinhead when they do remake Hellraiser.
