While roaming around the AFM this morning Bloody Disgusting discovered that Hammer Films is currently prepping their first ever 3-D film, The Woman In Black, the first time Susan Hill's novella has been adapted into a theatrical feature. The period piece is being scripted by Jane Goldman (Stardust, Kick-Ass, The Debt). "The Woman in Black" is a 1983 horror novel by Susan Hill about a menacing spectre that haunts a small English town. The story centres on a young solicitor, Arthur Kipps, who is summoned to Crythin Gifford, a small market town on the east coast of the United Kingdom to attend to the funeral of Mrs Alice Drablow, an elderly widow who lived alone in the desolate and secluded Eel Marsh House.

Hopefully, it isn't a bore fest like the original. And goddamn 3D already!!!

Yeah, hopefully they'll replace the bone-chilling atmosphere and genuine scares of the original with goofy 3D gore.

Back in the 50s "HAMMER FILMS" dared remake "Frankenstein" and "Dracula" and they didn't have to hear fans berating them for touching the "Universal Icons"...they went and made them and the fans were VERY happy...these remakes were in color, had good scripts, were sexy and "honored" the originals by being NOTHING like them! Hammer continued to dominate the market and shared glory with the beautiful, color "Poe" films from Roger Corman. Then "Rosemary's Baby" and "The Exorcist" appeared and horror became "Oscar-worthy". By 1976 Hammer just couldn't compete with the new "Multi-Million Dollar Horror Films America was producing and they faded out, never to be seen again...but never forgotten by Fans who knew that Hammer was responsible for making Horror films bloodier, sexier and sophisticated. Well, they're back now...sort of a "Son of Hammer" film studio and if any of you respect the historical importance of the studio concerning Horror Films...then be very excited. The middle-aged Horror Fans of today are excited...and for good reason...the "House of Hammer" may show "Platinum Dune" a thing or two about making ACTUAL cool remakes and originals... Support them, respect their historical importance and let's see what a Horror Studio...RUN BY FANS...can come-up with!

Maybe we'll get a computer generated marsh and special effects galore, like with the remake of The Haunting. Where's Jan DeBont? He'll turn it into an action film.

I love the 1989 TV version of The Woman in Black. I'm lucky to own the DVD since it's out of print. I wonder how good this theatrical version will turn out.
