Only in Hollywood, sigh. The indie horror movie Walking Distance, currently in postproduction, has undergone a name change to Experimental Activity now that one of its actors, Katie Featherston, has gone on to star in the the current theatrical hit Paranormal Activity. Showcase Entertainment has acquired international rights to "Experimental Activity," which revolves around a small town that is subject to a government medical experiment. You'll find the full synopsis below and more info.
"Clearly having the fastest-rising star in the business is a feather in the cap, but we feel the film stands on its own as a cool psychological thriller," Showcase president David Jackson said.
The film also features Adrienne King, who appeared in the 1980 version of "Friday the 13th" and its first sequel, Glenn Morshower, who's been seen as Secret Service agent Aaron Pierce on "24," and horror vet/scream queen Debbie Rochon.
FULL SYNOPSIS: "A idyllic, small, self-sufficient community. On the surface, it seems like the perfect neighborhood. Everything you could possibly need is within walking distance. But... the pastoral exterior conceals a dark past and an even darker secret. As a group of individuals - each with their own ties and agendas with the town and each other - converges on the enclave, strange things begin to happen. Very strange things. Strange enough to test - and then break - the very fabric of reality itself. "
Wow... Really? Do they think that unsuspecting theatergoers will think it's a sequel to PA? Or I guess I should say unsuspecting BlockBuster customers...
Pathetic. What a sellout. After watching the trailers, I don't see anything worth my time. Walking Distance is another poor attempt at making a horror movie that is destined for dust collection on a shelf somewhere in some movie DVD stock warehouse. The money is with Paranormal Activity... this dribble is a coat tail rider, and a poor one at that.
