Paramount Thinking Outside of the Box for 'Paranormal' Sequel?
Tuesday, November 3, 2009

While this isn't anything new, the Hollywood Reporter writes that Viacom's Paramount Pictures is looking at a sequel to current hit release Paranormal Activity. Given that a follow-up release wouldn't have the same element of surprise as "Paranormal," it will be key to craft a smart approach to a sequel, CEO Philippe Dauman told analysts. "Our team will come up with the right creative and marketing approach," he added. What cracks me up is that they'll never learn. After Blair Witch 2, you'd think the suits wouldn't go that route again. I wish betting were legal, I'd put all my eggs in one basket that they f*ck it up and it fails.

I gotta say, given the nature of paranormal activiy and the degree of it being a surprise smash, I think its damn near impossible to come up with a compitent sequel, but they'll make it anyway....

Sequels usually suck. There are very very few times they work. I'm willing to bet this won't.

The corporate pinheads only think about the bottom line. Who cares about something being well done, unique, etc. just bring in the cash cow.

"Marketing approach." Already fucking it up. Gotta love it.

Yeah, they'll probably try to make a standard movie out of the second one with Marilyn Manson on the soundtrack. Personally I'm looking forward to Paranormal Activity 5, a Blockbuster Exclusive starring one of the lesser-known Baldwin brothers.

i liked Blair Witch 2... I actually liked it alot better than the 1st..aside from the fact it wasnt trying to be the same movie.. but i really was more entertained by it. as for Paranormal. i dont know..i liked it, and I LIKED THE ORIGINAL COP ENDING THE MOST...i dont want them to ruin what i liked about it.

I didn't mind Blair Witch 2 for some reason...nothing great, but it held my interest.

I think there's potential in a film based on found footage of a group of people searching for Katie. Maybe it's police, maybe it's her family/friends. I could see it being more Blair Witch styled in that it's sort of a travel log with mysterious things happening to the group as they get closer and closer to her. Regardless of what story they come up with, lightening tends not to strike twice so I'm not holding my breath.

Frogger, I love you lol. And, Saturday the 13th, yeah that's what I was thinking. And finally Danny!, I think that would be an awesome way to go about doing a sequel.

Has nothing to do with the movie at all, they said marketing approach, was them basically just saying they will come up with a cool way to market the sequel. Boring.

Blair witch 2 to was a solid film. The only possible chance at a good sequel would be a prequel about her childhood up to the fire,But I'm sure they'll screw it up.I liked the cop ending it felt more realistic.

After Blair Witch 2? You mean the sequel that was pumped out a year after the original and nearly grossed it's production budget on opening weekend in NA alone? Not to mention the other 20 something sales regions in the world where they made money off of theatrical sales, PPV, DVD, TV rights, merch, etc. This movie was so far from a fail it is ridiculous. Cash cow=no. Fail=absolutely not. If this is what a failed movie earns then investor's in Eddie Murphy movies would jump for joy. Modest profit FTW.

I watched this the other night on Halloween with the lady. A co-worker had a DVD of the original cut. Full sound and picture quality. Didn't have to pay a dime, which is good, because it fucking sucked just like I thought. I'm ripping it with handbrake so I can cut together my own version of the movie. This wasn't scary at all...it was a comedy. I laughed a shit ton. Acting sucked. Plot sucked. Logic sucked. The only thing I was impressed by was some of the actual CG/FXs work they did with the shadows and the footprint. Not bad for $11,000. Oh that scene with the exorcist...holy shit I laughed so hard it was so bad. You're all retarded for liking this movie.
