"WAR OF THE WOLRDS" BROADCAST TURNS 71

Tomorrow marks the 71st anniversary of the life-changing "War of the Worlds" broadcast, which shocked the world. In lieu of the special occasion, you can download this piece of public domain by clicking here and enjoy it yourself.

From Wiki: "The War of the Worlds was an episode of the American radio drama anthology series Mercury Theatre on the Air. It was performed as a Halloween episode of the series on October 30, 1938 and aired over the Columbia Broadcasting System radio network. Directed and narrated by Orson Welles, the episode was an adaptation of H. G. Wells' novel The War of the Worlds.

The first two thirds of the 60-minute broadcast was presented as a series of simulated news bulletins, which suggested to many listeners that an actual Martian invasion was in progress. Compounding the issue was the fact that the Mercury Theatre on the Air was a 'sustaining show' (it ran without commercial breaks), thus adding to the dramatic effect. Although there were sensationalist accounts in the press about a supposed panic in response to the broadcast, the precise extent of listener response has been debated. In the days following the adaptation, however, there was widespread outrage. The program's news-bulletin format was decried as cruelly deceptive by some newspapers and public figures, leading to an outcry against the perpetrators of the broadcast, but the episode launched Orson Welles to fame.

Welles' adaptation was one of the Radio Project's first studies.

ROB ZOMBIE JUMPS TO ROADRUNNER, NEW SINGLE "WHAT?"

ROB ZOMBIE UNEXPECTEDLY SWITCHES LABELS MOVES TO ROADRUNNER RECORDS’ LOUD & PROUD IMPRINT TO RELEASE HELLBILLY DELUXE 2 IN EARLY 2010
New York, NY – In a sudden and unexpected move, multi-platinum hard rock artist Rob Zombie has inked has a new worldwide deal with leading rock label Roadrunner Records through its Loud & Proud imprint.

This shocking announcement comes as Zombie exits his former label and of eighteen years, where he sold fifteen million records as a solo artist and with his former band White Zombie. Zombie’s new album, Hellbilly Deluxe 2, previously set for release on 11/17 will now be released by Roadrunner / Loud & Proud Records in early 2010.

“It certainly wasn’t an easy decision to make after all this time, but it had to be done,” states Zombie. “I love this new record and wanted to surround myself with an excited new group of people who can reignite my enthusiasm for working within a hard rock record label. Roadrunner seems to be the perfect place.”

“Roadrunner is thrilled to be involved with Rob Zombie on a worldwide basis as he is a multiple-threat artist whom we’ve admired for many years,” said Roadrunner president Jonas Nachsin.

Tom Lipsky, founder and president of Loud & Proud echoed Nachsin’s sentiment, “Rob Zombie hits hard on Hellbilly Deluxe 2 and the fans expect nothing less. We are excited about the monster mayhem that he is certain to create!”

The first single from the new album, “What?” recently launched at all rock radio formats and is quickly climbing the charts. This latest album marks the follow-up to 1998’s triple platinum Hellbilly Deluxe.

The track listing is as follows:

Yes Maynard, because RZ gets to determine when his albums come out, not the record label.* *Please note obvious sarcasm.

HEY ROB .... WOULD IT NOT BE ALOT SMARTER TO RELEASE THE ALBUM BEFORE THE TOUR BEGINS?

Frogger

The new album sucks anyway. Seriously. A lot of it is on Youtube, not just What? Give it a listen. It's abysmal.

Roadrunner signs a lot of horrible bands. Zombie belongs on that label.

the new single is OK, i hope he goes back to his old style which he broke away from on educated horses. dont know why it has to be delayed until next year though, oh well, ill get it whenever it comes out.

Is it just me, or looking at that picture for Dong of the Dead is it obvious that the woman is the only one that needs looks in the porn business? Geez he's ugly. (And, no, smartasses, it's not the fact that he's dressed as a zombie in that picture, either.)

Grime

Rob Zombie should make a suicide video.

I hate to say it but the Zombie albums have got progressively worse since Hellbilly Deluxe. I'm not liking this new single.

StatutoryApe
1:25pm, October 29, 2009

Considering he wrote/recorded the album in such a short time, makes sense to push it back a few months to make sure everything is where it needs to be. Also, Roadrunner will probably fork out more $ for touring/marketing/promotion and they need some time to develop those plans. Zombie doesn't NEED a new record to go out and tour, he'll sell out venues with or without a new record.

LOL that dong of the dead sounds funny as fuck... we teach him a lesson to eat pussy not brains LMAO.

13 Minutes was pretty amusing. Nice 3-D, too. The cheesy product placement was funny.

HOrror porn? Why would it be the only time its mentioned on here? Dont want to offend anyone and just stay with basically safe news thats also being reported on a dozen other horror sites?

fulci2000
8:38pm, October 29, 2009

gonna just throw this out there... Zombie's music is worse than his halloween films. That sound died off in the late 90's and some people refuse to change with the times. Radio doesn't play shit like that anymore. Poor guy.
