You just referenced THE BURNING, F13TH, and HALLOWEEN as being more old school- why, because their acting and dialogue was worse than this? Hatchet's formula and effects were done the same way- only better. I think HATCHET did a great job at winking at the silly characters from those films yet updating it with real actors who could pull it off. And sorry- but none of those films had death scenes done in-camera as well as Hatchet's belt sander to the face or pez dispenser face. But alas, there is never any winning with the B-D haters when they decide to go off. Every movie is "overhyped" to some of you. Just because you see it last, don't go to festivals, don't get to review it first, don't bother to seek it out in theaters, and wait for cable, DVD, or illegal download years later- then you damn every good review it got because it just wasn't good enough for you. Then you say THE BURNING was good! HA! Why? Because it's 20 years old. The only time I've ever seen an audience have a better time at the movies than HATCHET was GRINDHOUSE and having attended numerous Fango Cons I must say that Adam Green is by far the nicest, coolest, and most enthusiastic director out there today. He doesn't drone on and on like RZ or jerk off to himself like Roth. He's just happy to be there and that's why his panels are always the biggest draw. Hatchet rules. Period. We need more like this and less SAWS, remakes, bad sequels, and PG13 CGI fests. This movie is everything that I loved about what I grew up on in horror.
Oh, and if you haven't seen Spiral yet- it's amazing. Completely different, but amazing.
