Cinemavault has acquired international sales rights to Julius Kemp’ English-language horror film Reykjavik Whale Watching Massacre, which is said to be an epic tale about a group of whale watchers, whose ship breaks down and they get picked up by a whale fisher vessel. The Fishbillies on the vessel have just gone bust, and everything goes out of control.
The Toronto-based company will commence sales at AFM next week on the story of a group of whale-watching tourists aboard a stricken vessel who fall into the hands of murderous fishermen.
Gunnar Hansen stars and Sjon Sigurdsson, who earned an Oscar nomination for original song on Dancer In The Dark, wrote the script.
Ingvar Thordarson, Gisli Gislason and Kemp of the Icelandic Film Company produced with UK-based Mike Downey and Sam Taylor of Film And Music Entertainment (F&ME), and Finland’s Solar Films.
Other backers include the Icelandic Film Fund and the Nordic Film And TV Fund.
Cinemavault’s vice-president of acquisitions Michael Paszt negotiated the deal with Thordarson. Sam Film holds rights for Iceland and E1 holds UK rights.
