AFM '09: A New Shockumentary 'Paranormal' Inspired?

With Paranormal Activity making a killing at the box office, the knock-offs have already begun production. One such film is the UK horror flick The Possession of David O'Reilly, which is said to be based on actual events. The synopsis reads: "The film a terrifying supernatural shockumentary about a demonic presence in a young couple's home in London." Check out the art below from Andrew Cull's "original" film starring Giles Anderson, Francesca Fowler, Nicholas Shaw and Zoe Richards.

MrDisgusting, Your tone in that report sounds very condescending. Surely you know PA isn't original either, and simply a rip off of Blair Witch. It seems to be Bloody-Disgusting has become far too close to PA and its filmmakers to take anything they say about it seriously.

His tone does seem condescending, but rightfully so. Yes, Paranormal Activity could be considered a "rip-off" of The Blair Witch Project, but only because they both use hand-held camera techniques. That's pretty much where the similarities end. But when comparing Paranormal Activity and this new movie, the similarities are very high between the plot and night-vision look of the poster. And I would say that as a horror website, Bloody-Disgusting should be very excited about everything about Paranormal Activity. So when it comes to all their positive reporting, I would say it's very called for.

There is something about PA and B-D... I believe there to be a couple reasons why B-D is making PA their baby..

The reason could be that Paranormal Activity is a great movie?

There is a movie that was released in some film festivals in 2005 called In Memorium written and directed by Amanda Gusack which in some ways are similar to Paranormal Activity which proves that PA is not at all that original. What sucks is that if In Memorium is ever widley released people will likely compare it to PA, despite the fact it came out first.

And the sad thing is...I want to see that instead of PA.

PA ripped off Ghostwatch if anything.

Beware of any movie stating it based on true or real events because well, they arent and usually a shit movie to boot.

I really don't understand the theory that PA is a ripoff of Blair Witch. Yes they are both shot in the documentary style and are about spirits but that doesn't mean that it's a rip off. They have totally different storylines. This would be the same as saying that Cloverfield and Qurantine are ripoffs of Blair Witch or every ghost movie since is a ripoff. It's called cinema there is a limited number of storylines and a ghost in two storylines with the same camera style doesn't make the two films equal On the other hand, this movie is a ripoff. I don't think I would mind it too much if it didn't claim to be based on real events. PA was upfront from the beginning that it wasn't so how can a film coming after about the identical thing claim to be? I can enjoy similar storylines and every country has their right to enjoy a movie like PA. But be up front about it.

i thought by far PA was one of the best movies of the year and it deserves everything its getting but a sequel i dont think is needed and once this movie hit it big rip offs were coming
