So, You Downloaded 'Paranormal Activity'....

Are you kidding me? Based on the numerous e-mails, forum comments and Twitter, it has come to my attention that quite a few of you have been downloading Paranormal Activity and watching it on your computer. While I'm not here to preach to you about the wrongs of downloading a movie, I am here to tell you that you that you are not seeing the movie the way it was meant to be experienced. I have also seen a DVD screener, almost two years ago, and it's not nearly as effective on your home TV. The screener that you are watching (and so eloquently bashing (sense the sarcasm)) is an old cut of the film, with an old ending, rearranged scenes and a horrible mono sound mix. One of the most important factors of the film is seeing it in a theater with booming sound. Watching it on your computer or home TV will NOT give you the same effect. In fact, I'm pretty sure I'm never going to even watch it on Blu-ray/DVD. It's a theatrical experience, and that's that. So whatever, go ahead and steal the movie, but you're only hurting yourself.

I was planning to wait for Blu to catch it, but I have a big, loud screening room. I just can't stand to watch a movie with people who think they're too cool for horror movies, but go anyway, of course. And spend most of the time playing with their phones... I just can't do it.

MrDisgusting for the win. seriously.

I seriously cannot even begin to tell you how angry I am. I understand if the movie doesn't live up to your hype, but anyone who gives it a 1 out 5 is out of their f*cking minds. I almost feel like people hate it just to hate it, yet, those are the same assholes sit on our comments and troll remake news and bitch. I wish I could revoke their horror fan card.

I'll freely admit that I downloaded the movie, but I plan on buying it when it comes out on DVD. And yes, I did not like the ending I saw, but I still enjoyed most of the movie and gave it a decent review. I don't enjoy going to theaters anymore with the amount of stupid fucking dickshits who behave like assholes. And besides, my philosophy when it comes to "scary" movies is they should be watched alone or with a significant other. I mean what kind of feelings of terror could one have when snuggled with hundreds of other people all packed tightly in a theater? I have no doubt in my mind that if I watched this movie in a packed theater that I wouldn't have come close to that feeling of dread I felt during the first hour and probably would have thought less of this film.

haha Actually i loved it so much that i'm gonna go see it on the 29th...and it did scare me,i'm all paranoid right now haha I even scared my sister just by telling her about the movie...can't wait for the 29th.

I've seen it 3 times. 2x in theaters and once on a screener in between the two theatrical times. those two times were the scariest. So even though I had already seen it twice, it still worked a 3rd time, thanks to the bonus of seeing it again properly.

LMAO! I actually downloaded it the other day - BUT - when it comes to Medicine Hat - i am definitely seeing it in the theatre. I don't do it much - cause, honestly....with the prices, it's a $60 night for 2 people. BUT - if it's in when i get paid Tuesday - oh yea, for sure! But - it's nice to see the screener from 2 years ago - and, to see how much has changed. I'll buy it if it's decent enough - cause, i'm just a whore when it comes to "Scary" movies. xD

If the movie is good, no matter where you watch it, its still good... What a fucking hype, some people will like, others wont, simples as that. Did you like? Good for you, now just shut up and let people say what they think.. Go watch some '60s horror movies and stop being obsessed with this movie, its just another movie.

Revoke This (Grabbing my nuts). Listen Mr. D, the fucking movie blows. I cannot stand movies that are full of super hype and loud noise scares. I also hate amateurs and "fauxumentaries" like Blair Witch, Cloverfield, and the upcoming Fourth Kind. It's all a big media hype bonanza and I'm just not going to fall for it. If you are scared by this...you're a 12 year old girl.

As soon as I left the theater I thought "this would have been better on my home theater". No irritating crowd being ghetto, laughing, or making dumb remarks. I'm not advocating watching this on a PC but I think it would be a much scarier experience when it hits bluray and can be enjoyed on even a budget home theater. FWIW I've read the alt and original endings and they seem better than the theatrical.

I can't stand people that download movies. There just cheap, lazy people. But whatever to each there own. I maybe go the movies 5-8 times a year and I made sure that this movie was one of them. It's not the greatest thing ever but it is a very good movie. Stop downloading and go see it!!!

I think that your wrong, but thats just me. I wasn't really scared at all. Creep out yeah. But I think I would of been more freaked out and scared if I did see it on my TV or my computer... I did with REC... and I was scared to fuckin sleep. I thought fuckin zombies would come out and eat me no joke. But at the same time. You don't get the annoying dicks who scream and make random imature jokes, or the girls that scream at a closing door. So that I understand but for the chill factor I think you need to watch this alone in a fuckin shack in the middle of nowhere by yourself. To be officaly freaked the fuck out.

If you bitch about people downloading movies, fuck you more.

The effectiveness of seeing it in a movie theater is due not necessarily to the movie itself, but the atmosphere the audience creates. It's like people can feel safe within a group, sitting in dark - but you get several people jumping and screaming, which undoubtedly happens, there's a psycho-social effect that takes place and heightens the sense of unease. One may be more susceptible to jumping from the girl sitting behind them screaming than they are from the actual images on the screen... And that's the experience you'll be missing on the small screen.

Oh, and I haven't seen the original ending, but once I heard Spielberg recommended the current one, I shook my head. For all his talent and wonderful movies he's made, he doesn't know how to end movies (War of the Worlds, or my all-time-favorite, Jurassic Park, where we previously established that a T-Rex could cause the earth to tremor from some distance away. Forget the notion that he may have worn slippers when he swooped down to "save" our heroes from the raptors, I'm still puzzled as to how the hell it got inside the building.)

Oh I don't say fuck you to people who download movies, that's the beauty of the internet. Trust me, I agree. However, THIS MOVIE should be seen in a theater.

I saw the movie in the theater and loved it. I understand this movie is indeed a sort of throw back movie. An experience that lends itself to the context in which you view the movie. In much the same way as Blair Witch Project worked. The hype for this film may be it's downfall. There are movie goers that read WAY too much into the hype of a film then go to the theater and bitch that it wasn't as good as they heard. Really? Well, when it's all you hear is how good something is it's only human nature to be let down by it. It's more of a social commentary on society than whether or not this particular film is "good" Having said all of that. I have downloaded the film. Not the old version either. There is a version out there that has the additional scenes they shot for the ending. I have yet to watch it at home. But, I will say that turning the lights down low, having a surround sound system and a 50 inch LCD to watch it on shouldn't take too much away from the "theater experience". Besides, at least I wont have to put up with stupid teenagers and sticky floors this time...

Lets be clear: Paranormal Activity may be a really cool theatrical experience, but its a crappy movie. The story and acting both suck. The sound mix, especially, is what makes it work. I've also heard people say the original ending, seen in this bootleg, is far superior to what is in theatres.

I think the biggest story here is that someone cares enough about a movie to even let something like this make them angry. Its entertainment, not life.

TwistedFate_L4

Watching it on your computer or home TV will NOT give you the same effect. Sounds like a bad movie then. A GOOD movie is good ANYWHERE. Not just at the theater with a bunch of screaming bitches.
