While we have yet to confirm this (so please take it as rumor for now), we're being told that John Carpenter will be getting behind the camera for Fangland, a film set up as a starring vehicle for Oscar winner Hilary Swank (The Reaping). She would play a TV producer who travels to Romania for an interview with a notorious European arms dealer. Turns out, he's a modern-day Dracula. John Marks, writer of the novel, is a former "60 Minutes" producer. Mark Wheaton (The Messengers) penned a previous draft. Carpenter is in post-production on The Ward, which stars Amber Heard.
This is great: Carpenter is back and making movie after movie. I hope he gives us a few handfuls of new, original films before he decides to retire again.
Hilary Swank would be a great addition to the Carpenter canon. I can't think of another leading Hollywood actress better suited to meet the criteria of the sexy, yet strong Carpenter heroine.
I bet if this wasint being made by John Carpenter then it would go straight to DVD. But it's just a rumour.
