Wait, Wait, 'Paranormal' Made $7m This Weekend?

We've been doing this for nine years now and I have never, and I mean NEVER seen anything like this. Like the movie or not, Paranormal Activity is something special. We've been behind the hype for films like Saw, Cabin Fever, The Ring, among other game changers, but this has my mind blown. We've seen hype before, but never like this, and apparently, it's working. After a few weeks of sold out midnight screenings, Paramount Pictures' $11k indie haunt film has pulled in an estimates $7 MILLION over the course of its full limited release this past weekend. What will happen when this goes wide on Friday? Will we have another Blair Witch on our hands? It looks highly possible and it's all because of you. Like it or not, cherish this moment, you guys pushed a little indie film through the cracks and left big Hollywood scratching their heads. Editor's Note: When you finally see this, tell the theater owner to crank up the volume!

yeah it's getting insane. Look at isohunt.com for god sakes - a shitload of only FAKE copies have made it the #7 most searched for torrent on the site. I am looking forward to this movie so much my brain is hurting!!!

I'm just not that hyped about this flick. It's seems alright, but also seems like just another BWP/cloverfield gag. More BWP than anything...all loud noise scares and nothing much else. Sure a buttload of people were scared, but a lot of them were probably not hardcore horror fans. Ah, time will tell. I'll wait to rent this one.

I can't wait to see this movie. I hope it's just as scary as the reviews say it is.

saw aside, the rest of those hyped movies blew. cabin fever sucked horribly. That said, I have been intrigued about this movie since first details came out what feels like forever ago. I hope it reaches the UK.

Only thing we're worried about is we've been hearing the hype for so long, we're gonna go in there expecting and demanding to be creeped out and it's not gonna happen. Saw Blair Witch late and the hype killed it for us.

it's playing here in Seattle and i am debating on whether to go see it (i probably will) but i just wonder if there's any way for the movie (at this point) to live up to the hype behind it. the same thing happened a tiny bit for me with TRICK R TREAT. i DO like that movie but i don't think it's as good as everyone was making it out to be. but we'll see with PA.

The movie for me was fun to watch, 30mins longer than blair witch, nice and creepy with some loud noise scares here and there. Only protip from me in try to get in an audience that isn't full of people talking and giggling during suspenseful scenes.

I saw this movie last friday, and you know what? I really had a good time with it. I'm not saying it is the scariest movie of all time or the best. It was just a badass fun time to have. When you go see it try and have a good audience to watch it with. Don't go in the theater with a "this is gonna suck" mood. Because if that is the case, you might as well not even go.

I agree with Keegsta you pretty much have to go to every film especially this one with the right mind set, because if you dont then youll be sitting there picking it apart for no reason.

One thing I have to say -- at the end of the month, Paranormal Activity will be the most successful horror film released at Halloween time. Saw 6 is probably a little nervous, realizing that audiences are FINALLY ready for something a bit different that isn't just torture related. I wonder how Saw 6 will do. My guess is that it might make $40 million total, but it will undoubtedly be the lowest grossing Saw film to date.

Its not 7 million but even 8,2 million they only earned this weekend, and than to wait for the results of monday. Next week Paranormal Activity will be getting over a 1000 a 1500 release and than i will earned again a shit load of money and than it will be getting The Blair Witch Project status.

Yeah maybe studios will pay attention to original ideas like this that cost 11K to make and pull in millions instead of CRAPPY remakes (that this site promotes) that cost millions to make and suck complete ass. Cough Cough... Nightmare on Elm St... Cough Cough.

Certain movies do not have the same effect once you watch them on DVD, especially if you never saw it in the theater. This is one that will definitely have to be seen in the theater.

It is absolutely incredible that this made 7 mill this weekend, whats more incredible though is, it absolutely lives up to the hype. Paranormal Activity is terrifying, & not just during the hour & thirty minutes you're watching it. Its a movie that once you have seen it, won't leave your mind...everytime you turn your lights out to go to sleep you will think about it. I saw it 3 days ago & I can honestly say that I have been genuinely scared to go to bed...I feel like I'm 10 years old all over again, freaking out at even the smallest noise my house makes.

When it opens wider next week & isnt only playing at midnight near my house, I'd like to see it again to see how it holds up on a second viewing. It really is a flick I will always wish I could see for the first time again, its such a great horror experience.

Overall, a decent little scare flick. I wish they would have left alot of stuff out of the trailer though....Worth checking out!

I have to disagree that this must be seen in a theater. Had I watched this at home (and where it wouldnt have been full of ghetto people and suburban jock rats) with the lights out and it quiet, it would have probably kept me up all night long. It has the ability to really scare you but not with a bunch of annoying people laughing and talking the entire movie. Don't believe it has to be seen in a theater because it doesn't.

dont by the hype , please,, i am begging you,, but i will say if you liked blair witch you will like this, just not my kinda scares.
