With Antichrist arriving this month from IFC Films, Danish auteur Lars von Trier's (read our new interview) next feature film will be Melancholia, a psychological drama-cum-disaster movie. Budgeted at around E5 million ($7 million), English-lingo film is set for a European 2010 shoot. Casting of international cast is currently under way. The title refers to Planet Melancholia, an enormous planet illustrated on the press release that looms threateningly close to Earth. "No more happy endings!" commented Lars von Trier, who will direct from his own screenplay. "As a disaster movie, 'Melancholia' will use some special effects, but nothing compared to Hollywood," exclaims Zentropa Entertainment co-founder Peter Aalbaek Jensen.
Im not big on disaster movies cause there usually not done very well or they rely to much on crappy CG, but the fact that hes hinting at "no happy endings" sounds pretty good. I love movies where no one makes it in the end or the end of human existence is at hand.
damn right there better not be any fucking happy endings I hate happy endings... esp in disaster films. COme on in real life you can't save shit. Thats why I loved KNOWING so much too. I hope its film like in first person and in and out of 1st person too... That would be sick. I hope it has a lot of mind fucks and sick ass action... I never seen any of these dudes movies... I have too.
AntiChrist was amazing on so many levels. Gainsboro's performance was fearless. It will be damn interesting to see what von Triers does with the tired old cliche disaster film. Blow it the fuck up i say
If I could think of a phrase more ridiculous than "A Lars von Trier musical," it would be "A Lars von Trier" disaster film. Should be all shades of awesome, disturbing, and depressing. I just want him to finish his America trilogy.
