Bloody Disgusting confirmed reports this morning that Neil Marshall - the man behind Lionsgate's The Descent, Doomsday and Dog Soldiers - will be getting behind the camera for Burst 3D, Ghost House Pictures' horror/thriller developed with Lionsgate. He replaces Daniel Calparsoro who was previously attached. You can get more info on the project by reading beyond the break.
Penned by Gary Dauberman, the flick follows a young woman running from her troubles finds herself stranded at a lodge with a group of strangers. One after another, they inexplicably begin to burst into pieces. Shock quickly descends into paranoia as nobody knows who to trust. And as the mystery unravels, the survivors realize that what's causing this unstoppable phenomenon is bigger and more disturbing than anyone could have ever imagined.
Ghost House partners Sam Raimi (DRAG ME TO HELL, the SPIDER-MAN series) and Rob Tapert (DRAG ME TO HELL, THE GRUDGE) will produce and Nathan Kahane (DRAG ME TO HELL, THE GRUDGE) will executive produce. Tendo Nagenda and J.R. Young will oversee the project for Ghost House.
The announcement was jointly made today by Joe Drake, Lionsgate Co-Chief Operating Officer and Motion Picture Group President, Mike Paseornek, Lionsgate President of Motion Picture Production, and Ghost House’s Tapert and Kahane.
“We are thrilled to be working again with Neil Marshall, a modern master of horror, suspense and action," Paseornek explains. "With Neil at the helm of BURST 3D, horror fans are guaranteed one of the most terrifying and innovative experiences of their moviegoing lives.”
“Mike Paseornek and the Lionsgate team are leaders in the horror space," add Tapert. "This, along with the opportunity to work closely with Joe again, were motivating factors in our desire to partner with Lionsgate on BURST 3D. We hope to continue the partnership with Liongsate on other projects like this.”
The collaboration between Lionsgate and Ghost House reflects the strength of longstanding professional and creative relationships within the two entities. Lionsgate’s Drake was an original founder with Raimi, Tapert and Kahane of Ghost House, and BURST 3D marks the first Ghost House production to be distributed through Lionsgate since Drake assumed his present post in 2007.
The deal also represents Lionsgate’s ongoing leadership in the 3D arena. The studio was the first to apply next-generation 3D technology to the horror genre with its critical and box office success MY BLOODY VALENTINE 3D, released January 16th of this year.
The premise sounds very simple and generic, yet it might be a fun movie to watch. People blowing up all over the place! That could be good in 3D. Hopefully the gore is good, and not alot of CG. Otherwise this might BLOW!
Reminds me of the movie "Spontaneous Combustion" for some reason. I love Neil Marshall, so I will definitely check it out. But going to be honest, I'm really tired of the whole 3D gimmick thing. 2010 will be the year of 3D. Although this year had a lot of 3D films.
this will be good (if not great!). i've loved all of Neil's movies (and yes that includes DOOMSDAY! lol). i just wish this 3D thing would end or at least quell itself for a little bit.
yeah the premise does sound simple but thats what I love. Thats why I love 80's horror...simple, FUN horror movies! I saw Trick R Treat with a friend the other day and when it finished she exclaimed "thats it!?"...thats it!?! YEEAH thats it...whats wrong with a confident movie that just delivers chills and thrills? God I hate moviegoing audiences these days.
he needs to stop fucking around an do dog soldiers 2
