Twisted Revs Up 'Texas Cainsaw' in 3D

Twisted Pictures is becoming the house of multiple sharp objects as the makers of the Saw series are closing a deal to take over the Texas Chainsaw Massacre franchise, putting the villains Leatherface and Jigsaw under one roof. The details are slim, but Leatherface could be returning in 3D. More soon. Read on for the rest of the story and tell us what you think below.

Sources said the producer/financier is in talks to partner in the films with Lionsgate, which has distributed all the pics in the highly profitable "Saw" series, including the Oct. 23 release of "Saw VI."

The plan is to contemporize the storyline for a 3D film that would be scripted by Stephen Susco ("The Grudge"). Carl Mazzocone, Mark Burg and Oren Koules will be the producers.

The series had been launched at New Line with a remake and a prequel produced by Platinum Dunes, the genre company run by Michael Bay, Brad Fuller and Andrew Form.

Deals had been made on a per-pic basis with "Chainsaw" rights-holders Bob Kuhn and Kim Henkel, the latter of whom wrote the original 1974 pic with director Tobe Hooper. Talks fell apart with Platinum Dunes. The Twisted Pictures deal is for multiple films, sources said.

The franchise is bloody big business: The 2003 remake cost $9.5 million and grossed $110 million worldwide. The 2006 prequel didn't do as well but still grossed $55 million on a $13 million budget.

The Platinum Dunes team, which just made a first-look deal at Paramount, still is aligned with a pair of iconic psycho murderers: After reintroducing Jason Voorhees in 2009's "Friday the 13th," they are relaunching Freddy Krueger (played by Jackie Earle Haley) in a new "A Nightmare on Elm Street."

So will Texas Chainsaw 3D follow Platinum Dunes films?

doesn't sound like it if they are going to "contemporize" the storyline

I just don't know if there is really anywhere else to go with TCM. The remake was very scary, the The Beginning was okay....what else are they going to do without the storyline being boring?

WHOA!!!! I don't know about in 3d but in the hands of twisted pictures this could be good.I didn't care too much for the remake yet the prequel was o.k. imo.The deal is for a couple of films huh? I wanna see how this turns out.

By "Under one roof"- I hope you're talking about the Studio and not Leatherface and Jigsaw in the same movie. I would suppose all of these remakes and team-ups are a outcome of "supply and demand". Like I said the other day...it's suddenly dawned on me that the blame for all of these things are the average, youthful film audiences who really couldn't care less for the classic originals, are NOT "Horror Fans"and just want to see those "stupid, old school horror movies" REMADE with advanced technology. We,Horror and Sci-Fi fans love those movies and are usually pissed-off every time one is remade for a bunch of "kids". But,going to a movie will always be the "Date Event" of choice...so, the majority rules and WE can either be depressed or excited. I, personally, wait for them to go to the "Dollar Theater" and that's ALL the money these fucking idiots get from me...if AT ALL! Then I go home, pop-in the DVD of the "Old Classic" and feel a little sad for the kids that didn't want to watch it.

Enough with the 3-D. It's a fun gimmick, but now its getting to be way too much.

As long as Kim Henkel is not involved, then it is a good thing. Even another Platinum Dunes film would have turned out far better than anything he could ever do now.

I Agree with EVILFAIRYDUST. Where can TCM go that wont be unbelievable or ridiculous ? The remake was pretty decent. The prequel was ok. This 3D shit seems like the latest fad. I have yet to see a good one. MBV was not that good. Go watch the original, its not even close.

I thought the remake sucked, the beginning was pretty damn good, but I'm always down to see a new texas chainsaw movie, as long as its not in the direction that "next generation" took. And I think they should loose the 3d thing.

I want to see Leather back again, but yeah, 3-D is fun, but to me that means less story. The 3-D is just used to distract you from the fact that there will be no really story. I enjoyed the 3-D in My Bloody Valentine and the Final Destination, but now they're maybe gonna do it for F13 and were talking about it for Halloween. I agree, studios seem to think every film needs to be made for today's teens or whatever. None of these films ever are better that the original. Give me 70s and 80s horror over this retread crap anyday. I am all for more F13 movies and things like that, but I'm not for redoing NOES.

Personally, I have always loved TCM movies.. They are my favorite just because it could actually happen... I hope it comes true because 3D would prolly be a lot of fun with this film =)

Since Texas 3 and 4 were both basically remakes, this is going to be like the 4th time they're remaking this. Where they can go, I have no idea.

Im a huge leatherface and TCM fan. I think they can do films gaping the beginning and the remake. however DO NOT do it in 3D. That it is that dumbest ass idea since Jason X. I think we all as horror fans need to protest that shit and nip ( or saw ) it in the bud before it happens.
