Just when you thought it was over, Warner Bros. Pictures has announced an August 13, 2010 release for Friday the 13th Part 2, a sequel to the Platinum Dunes produced remake that arrived in theaters this past February. After a massive box office opening ($40m) and the recent success of the A Nightmare on Elm Street trailer (also produced by Platinum Dunes), it looks like WB has finally put Jason Voorhees back in their sights. You can read Brad Fuller's latest blog update and watch the NOES trailer by clicking here. The next Friday the 13th will in fact be the 13th film in the franchise. Who's not excited?

i'm excited! i liked the reboot but i hope they make this one bloody/gorier. and give us a REALLY good chase scene (like Helen's in I KNOW WHAT YOU DID....). also, i wonder if the Jason in the winter/snow idea is still in the plan.

Well I didn't totally hate the remake, so I'm glad they're doing a sequel, but if they're gonna do a follow up, they'd better do it ten times better than the last one because otherwise no one will see it. You might have been able to get away with interchangeable, unlikable, unrealistic, and materialistic characters back in the old days of the original series, but that type of shit just dosen't cut it anymore, so it's no surprise horror is one of the least successful genres out there. Given the fan response to the remake, Platinum Dunes has a lot of expectations to live up to, and will have to redeem themselves in the eyes of the "F13" fans, as well as everyone else who disliked the last one. That said, I think that if they hire a talented director, and got out of his way, then they will be more than able to exceed everyone's low expectations, but that's up to them. Now I really hate to say this, but they should take a page from Dimension's book (I can't believe I just typed that, but bear with me). Dimension hired Robert Rodriguez and Nimrod Antal to do "Predators", and those two have complete control. Now I realise that whoever PD hires to direct won't be a big name like Rodriguez, but they should still let him have creative control. Let the directors direct, and the line producers stick to producing. When producers try and dip their fingers into the creative aspects of the film too much, we get "The Hitcher". Nuff said.

Well, the same writers are attached so I'm expecting another sloppy turd. I'm skipping this one.

I thought the remake sucked but they can only improve with the sequel, right? It's impossible for me to not be excited for anything Jason related. Oh, and what's up with Mr. D dissing this..? The film makers not pay him a huge fee to hype it up for the next year or what?

As a big fan of the friday franchise I can't wait for this! Hopefully they continue on with the original part 4 and Tommy Jarvis kills Jason.

I don't know 'keepin It Reel', I thought most of the actors from the old series were pretty likeable up until New York, and even that cast had a few likeable characters. Not many of those old actors were very good at acting(with a few exceptions), but I thought most of them were likeable. I agree that the cast of the last one sucked (I liked Trent though for some reason), but I think that speaks more about the industry now than it does about the last Friday specificaly. I haven't liked very many actors that have come out of this decade, or the later half of the last one period. I agree with every thing else you said though. C'mon man, you didn't think Jennifer Cooke was likeable?

How is this going to be released 3 months after NOES and it hasn't even began Production yet?

keepin It Reel, i agree with you. the reboot was a film that tried to be all things to all people. you can't do that committee thinking/ideas type deal with a movie. as keepin says, let the director do his it his way/his or her vision. with the reboot it was clear that too many cooks were in the kitchen and we got a watered down movie.

If anyone read Brad fuller's blog about NOES being the most important film to remake, then we should all be a little worried for F13. Maybe that's why talentless writers were hired the first time around for Jason. They need to put a crew together that they are as proud about as they are with NOES. Better writers would help (No incredibly stupid dialogue), a better score (preferably the original), and bring his look back to the way it was in parts 3 and 4. Save the hair for new villains... bring Jason back to the menace he was.

I liked the remake and I'm glad they are doing this, I just wish they hadn't announced a release date yet. Did we learn nothing from Halloween 2? Even though it can get moved, this might force the production to be hurried to meet a deadline, instead of taking time, and making sure the script makes sense and it is well filmed. I'm excited about to hear the franchise will continue, but concerned about such a quick release date.

Ummmmmmm... Am I missing something here? Warner Bros? They had nothing to do with the original series or remake. It was Paramount/New Line. Hmmmm... Mr. Disgusting is slipping in his facts, lately. First it was Paranormal Activity grossing 34,000,000 on a handful of screens, now this. ;)

The_Bark, New Line Cinema was stripped down to a development-only company and merged with Warner Bros. Both companies were under Time Warner and economic reasons brought about the removal of New Line's CEOs and the downsizing of a once great studio. It's a damn shame.

bring it on! and Nightmare, i'm not sure mr. D was dissing...i kinda figured he meant it in a who's not excited as in we're all definitely excited kind of way...but maybe i'm wrong. i think we'd all rather a shitty jason movie than no more jason movies at all...i would anyways..i do own part 8 after all...
