'Paranormal Activity' Director Wants to Thank You...

Oren Peli, director of this weekend's Paranormal Activity, wants to thank all of you for your support of his indie film that took in an estimated $150k in only 12 theaters. Below you can watch the video where he explains the importance of demanding the film, which you can all do in the matter of seconds. Click here to read about Bloody Disgusting's opening night extravaganza in Hollywood, CA. After a young, middle class couple moves into what seems like a typical suburban “starter” tract house, they become increasingly disturbed by a presence that may or may not be somehow demonic but is certainly most active in the middle of the night. Especially when they sleep. Or try to.

I just think it's strange and sad that everyone involved in this film, especially the director, has had to work so hard to get this film distributed in theatres (a no-brainer in my opinion) when the major companies fart out dismal remakes and rehashes that open on 1,000+ screens and lay there right where they put them.

IT BETTER COME TO DC OR GET A WIDE RELEASE!

I demanded it. Added the widget to my facebook, so friends could demand it. But still, without a proper wide release, I wont be able to see it in theatres. I've been wanting to see it for years, and if the only way I'll get to see it is on dvd, then that's how I'll see it, but I'm dying to see this in theatres. And I NEVER go to the theatres. EVER. I hate them, I'll go for this movie. Happily

Do you know how awesome that would be if it opened nationwide? The studio should be smart and do that already. It's already got a lot of money in 12 theaters than some movies get in the first month that has opened in thousands of theaters. Do the right thing, studio, and release it nationwide! We all want to see it!

ThunderDragoon, I believe you're referring to that typo saying it made over 33 Million in one day. That wouldn't even be possible in so few theaters. It's hard for a lot of big blockbusters to do that in around 4,000 theaters. It actually did over $33,000. So no, it has not made in 12 theaters what any film in over 1,000 has made in a month. The film did terrific though making as much as it did in 12 theaters showing only once a day. I'm very excited about that. But a lot of people clearly don't understand that a release like this is the smartest way to release a movie like this. You build on the buzz. Opening it wide right off the bat would not have been as good an idea. I doubt it would have bombed, but it wouldn't have done as great as it might do now by taking it slow. Do you think The Blair Witch Project would have been nearly as huge if they had opened it wide right away? No way. A lot of people in other places haven't heard of Paranormal Activity yet. But they will. And they won't even have to spend all that much on marketing. WOM will carry it. Anyway, I'm glad it did so great and can't wait until it eventually comes to my area.

Breaks my heart to see what I think is the best horror film in the last 2 decades to be held back this long. I was lucky to see it at Sydney Film Fest this year but if not for that I don't think I would have seen it until its eventual US DVD release. Movie studios suck balls. Oren Peli is a genius. I can not believe he's standing in that house. My house has the same shaped staircase and it freaks me the hell out!

I really wanted to see this, but the nearest theater was 5 hours away. Hopefully this gets some more love and a wider release.

How come Bloody-Disgusting reported that Paranormal Activity made nearly $150,000 this weekend -- BUT on Box Office Mojo, they show that it only made HALF that amount. Paranormal Activity $77,873 $6,489 per theater
