Bloody Disgusting just got their hands on the synopsis for The Gate, Alex Winter's 3D remake of the classic cult hit The Gate from 1987 that was the feature film debut of Stephen Dorff. With a screenplay by Kerric Macdonald, the film is said to begin lensing late this year, early next. We'll keep you posted when casting is officially announced, but until then why don't you dig on the synopsis?
The remake invokes the original spirit but with updated characters and of course more elaborate special effects. The feeling of the story is one of adventure with some terrifying thrills.
It revolves around Miles and Terry who live in a typical suburban tract. One day, they discover a mysterious crystalline rock in Miles' backyard, they quickly dig up the lawn in search of more. But instead, they unearth The Gate - the opening to an underground chamber containing terrifying evil. The boys soon realize what they have unleashed, as one dire event follows another. With supernatural fiends invading suburbia, it's up to the kids to find the secret that will lock forever THE GATE...If it is not too late.
I lOVED this movie when I was a kid, it creeped me out! The Gate II was a letdown though. Anyways bring on the 3D! As long as its good 3D...I'm talking 'layered' effects, depth and just feel like you're there. Not only stuff popping out at you.
And Scurgar you have the option of not seeing it in 3D, but you'd be crazy not to wanna see it in 3D.
Why? I just cant fathom this one. Yes the original was great but the problem is heavy metal isnt scary anymore and the movie is like a snapshot in time, I can not imagine how a remake could be worth a toss. And I couldnt give less of a shit about 3D than I already do now, I wish the gimmick would fucking die off along with this remake bullshit.
There are going to be A LOT more movies coming in 3D with the advancements they are making with new technologies.
As for this remake, I really hope whatever they do, they do it well, cause I have always really liked the original, and it would be a shame if they did it poorly.
Ugh can I just scream! Why oh why can no one come up with a concept of their own? This movie was my fav movie as a child, and is now my 11 years fav movie. True it had flaws but hey it was 1987. It was original for its time. Why remake it? Do we remake a great work of art? No we copy it. This is no different. I'll watch it for the effects, but I doubt it will reach the creepiness of the Original.
the first one was great so I'm sure they will find a way to ruin it. Especially since its in 3-D. Or if they actually focused on the film and the 3-D was just an added feature it could be cool unlike the disaster final destination.
Putting this to 3D is a waste of time. Unless they focused on the Heavy Metal band that recorded the album and how they learned to summon demons. That's my two cents...
the only and i mean ONLY reason im excited about this is because of alex winter, i loved the gate when i was younger and own original vhs copies of gate 1, 2 from when i was a child the 3d idea FOR the gate dont sound to bad but im not one for 3d (kind of hard to be excited about something of the sort when your blind in one eye) but im sure alex wont let us down so we shall see
"3D is something you can't pirate, meaning more sales at the box office." More money at the box office means more pointless remakes. Is that what you really want Nightmare?
