TIFF '09 Review: 'REC 2' Just as Entertaining as the First!

My personal favorite of all the horror films that premiered at the Toronto International Film Festival was Jaume Balaguero and Paco Plaza's perfect little sequel, REC 2, which had the audience going bananas from start to finish. "REC 2 is the only movie in the entire festival that left me wanting more. It’s a nonstop rollercoaster ride (yeah, I know that’s cliché, but it’s true!) that grabs the audiences by the throat and never lets go. You breathe when the credits hit and not a single second before. Balaguero and Plaza have delivered a rare sequel gem that can be watched hand-in-hand with the first film..." it was awesome to be there eh? it was my first time in a horror movie where the audience would not only applaud the gore and jump at the scares but actually audibly shudder in disgust and unease. way to go dudes!

i want to read this review so badly but i don't want it spoiled. can't you guys write a SPOILER FREE review? i can't wait to see this. SONY better not fuck with the release of this like they did with REC's release.

djblack1313 - maybe i'll write one on the user reviews page. but until i have the time for that. here's the idea. if you liked the first you'll definitely dig this one. same dark, chaotic, and claustrophobic aesthetic as the first one. the 2 movies fit together like puzzle pieces, it's great. they'll be awesome to watch back to back. as you know, the synopsis is that a swat team enters the building 15 mins after the end of the first movie. they have cameras mounted to their helmets and there's a camera swat guy too...so there are more available camera angles and it works out well for sure. they also manage to keep the story arc surprising and interesting. in fact, they expand on the story very nicely to make the whole ordeal even more nightmarish and fucked up. all in all, i can't quite say that i liked it quite as much as the first (i thought the ending of the first was one of the scariest things ever) but it was definitely a great movie (all the papers here in toronto were giving it better reviews than most film festival movies..not only the midnight madness movies either). my only real criticism? spanish people yell too much...oh my nerves.

p.s. definitely stay away from the review and today's interview with the directors on fangoria...spoliers galore.

gonna wait for the hollywood remake because I don't know spanish and I believe the mix of fast action plus Zombies is something I can't keep my eyes on when i'm reading subs
