Mysterious Light & Prodigy Movies production of psychological thriller The Reef has commenced pre-production at Sydney’s Fox Studios. Read on for more details.
Confirmed cast includes Damian Walshe-Howling (Underbelly, Blue Heelers), Zoe Naylor (McLeods Daughters), Gyton Grantley (Underbelly), Adrienne Pickering (Knowing, Out Of The Blue) and Kieran Darcy-Smith (Animal Kingdom, The Square).
Filming will commence in October on location in Hervey Bay in Queensland.
The film will feature live footage of great white sharks, shot in South Australia. Intent on producing a realistic, terrifying film, no CGI or animatronic models will be used – these sharks are the real deal!
As part of the unique marketing for the film, The Reef will offer a world first opportunity with live web streaming of the making of the film – as it happens. This concept will give viewers a unique insight into the making of a feature film, usually reserved for DVD extras. The stream will be 100% live and un-edited, commencing Thursday November 5. Exact time and further details will be announced on the film’s official website
The Reef is produced by Traucki’s Mysterious Light company and Michael Robertson of Prodigy Movies. International sales are being handled by Lightening Entertainment out of the US, with confirmed pre-sale territories including the UK, Japan, Canada & Europe.
Traucki & Robertson were behind 2007’s successful feature “Black Water”, released in over 76 territories worldwide and nominated for 2 AFI’s among others.
I really like the Poster Art, it almost looks like a Uero horror movie poster. But no Animitronics?...C'mon! it's going to be boring seeing real footage of a great white swimming around, and then as it quickly snips to an actor screaming as they get pulled under withought the actual shark shown biting them ect ect...
Yea i don't get why no animatronics... Jaws did a combination of both and it worked great and that was 30 years ago! As i see it now its just like open water. time will tell i guess cuz we do need another good shark movie.
Black Water was an under the radar gem and that was made entirely using real croc footage composited ingeniously into shots featuring the actors. Considering how well that worked I don't doubt they can pull this off.
I want to see the french tackle a Shark horror movie, i bet they could truly make something disturbing...Inside was a disturbing masterpiece, a total work of art and is beyond anything hollywood can do at the moment...the french know how to creat perfect music that is haunting and gives their movies atmosphere. Martyrs is another fine example, the second half of that seriously put a dent in my brain. so disturbing...
If you don't see any decent kills, it's going to be another "Look another fin", lots of screaming and the water turning red Yawn. I actually want to see copious amounts of shots where you see the shark take large chunks out of people, doubt if that'll happen :-(
