The WORLD PREMIERE of Samuel Hadida’s Solomon Kane from Robert E. Howard (creator of Conan the Barbarian) which stars James Purefoy (The Philanthropist, Rome, Vanity Fair) and directed/written by Michael J. Bassett will be screened as part of the Toronto International Film Festivals Midnight Madness line-up on Wednesday, September 16 at the Ryerson Theatre. With Kane, Conan and his other heroes, iconic American writer Robert E. Howard created the genre now known as “SWORD & SORCERY,” in the late 1920s and early 1930s. His work has spawned countless imitators and given rise to his influence in the fantasy genre which can be rivaled only by J.R.R. Tolkien (Lord of the Rings).
The film adaptation tells the heroic story of a savage warrior in 16th Century England who seeks redemption for a lifetime of sins by renouncing violence to live a life of purity, only to find himself compelled to pick up his sword once again to vanquish a growing evil.
