EXCLUSIVE: Toronto residents mark your calendars for September 12th as the Toronto International Film Festival's "Midnight Madness" is hosting a zombie walk that leads up to the world premiere of George A. Romero's Survival of the Dead, which involves inhabitants of an isolated island off the North American coast who find their relatives rising from the dead to eat their kin. The leaders of the island feud over whether or not to kill their reanimated relatives or preserve them in hopes of finding a cure. Beyond the break you can check out our exclusive look at the second half of the "Sareg" interview that began over at MySpace. Read on to check it out, along with the 5 minute long behind-the-scenes video.

On a small island off North America's coast, the dead rise to menace the living. Yet...the islanders can't bring themselves to exterminate their loved ones, despite the growing danger from those the once held dear. A rebel among them hunts down all the zombies he can find, only to be banished from the island for assassinating his neighbors and friends. On the mainland, bent on revenge, he encounters a small band of survivors in search of an oasis on which to build a new life. Barely surviving an attack from a mass of ravenous flesh-eaters. They commandeer a zombie-infested ferry and sail to the island. There, to their horror, they discover that the locals have chained the dead inside their homes, pretending to live 'normal' lives...with bloody consequences. What ensues is a desperate struggle for survival and the answer to a question never posed in Romero's Dead films: Can the living ever live in peace with the dead?

As a longtime Romero fan I can't wait to see this. I thought Diary was so so compared to the rest of his filmwork. This looks to be way better!

the zombie at the end was right...I was lucky enough to be a zombie in a george romero film, and I made the screen in a few scenes...dream come true.

Zombieaddict you are the luckiest person on the fucking planet! I'm a big Romero fan myself and I cant wait for this movie.

hahaha, sometimes i forget how lucky I was, I suppose I was in shock the whole time and it didn't quite sink in till after the fact. Well land of the dead isn't my favorite of his films (I do love it though) I feel privilaged to be apart of that film. I am the zombie just over the left shoulder of the butcher as he is chopping his way through that wall with a butcher knife. I was directed by the man himself! so surreal. I for one cannot wait for this film, and I wasn't aware these were the same group of guys who hijack the motorhome from diary. neato!

It has been too long for a new zombie flick from Romero. Hard to believe he's been doing these for 40 years! He still hasn't surpassed "Day of the Dead."

After the snorefest that was Diary of the Dead and seeing this movie's trailer, I think I'm ready to say that Romero's time has come to pass on the torch. I'd hate to see him further taint his name and turn into another George Lucas...

I agree with norristian.

I hate to say it but norristian and deadlover maybe right the last three dead films just didn't have the right feel to them. I love Romero's work but think he's loosing touch.

I'm going to give Romero the benefit of the doubt on this one. It seems to me that the plot has some promising aspects. And as far as Diary of the Dead is concerned, I don't think it was completely awful. For me however, the most annoying part of that movie was the girlfriend with her constant snide comments followed by quick exits from the room. I think in that movie it was more so a case of the characters being throw away, though the story was a somewhat solid take on the whole YouTube/viral video craze.

to me the worst part of "diary" was when their friend shoots herself. the characters reaction was almost non existent. I know if I was ever around when a close friend blew her brains out I would be alot more upset than those characters were. Having said that, I think this film looks great.

The premise sounds interesting and the stills promising. Lets hope, at the absolute least, that it's better than Diary of the Dead. I think it looks good though

... Land of the Dead was fuckin' garbage and Diary was only slightly better. Let's hope Romero pulls his head outta his ass and finally makes a good movie again.

these "interviews" are pretty cool. i will give Romero the benefit of the doubt, too. i DO like and still enjoy LAND OF THE DEAD. DIARY not so much. i really can't even watch it. it's bad. but hopefully that clip released last week(?), when seen in context, will be good! because watching it just online in the clip form, it was TERRIBLE. but fingers crossed Romero made a good or at least enjoyable movie.

While Big Daddy's was slightly annoying, i still liked Land of the Dead. Diary was the one i was not to thrilled about. The gore was cool (i guess), but i couldnt stand the actors at all and wasnt to thrilled about the over all idea of the film. I hope this one is better then Diary.

All his films are classics some more than others and I've loved everyone of them. This will be another as well.

Can't wait. While Diary was no Night - Day, I still enjoyed it. I actually really like Land of the Dead, and although George didn't direct and Tom Savini did, the 1990 remake of Night of the Living Dead is epic as well.

The Sarge clips didn't impress me too much, but the little behinds the clips scene did, i hope Romero redeems himself with this film. I think his work is alot different now due to the fact that he isn't working with the same crew or actors that he had in so many of his older classics, they just don't have the same feel to them.
