Update: We're told that ' Supermax' is not related in ANY way with the WB Super Max Green Arrow thing... We got some pretty rad news for you guys this afternoon as Bloody Disgusting got the exclusive news that Sony's Columbia Pictures has acquired the original spec horror action script Supermax from actor/writers Christopher Allen Nelson (Kill Bill Vol. 2, The Dead Girl, The Tripper, Criminal Minds) and Mitch Rouse (Strangers With Candy, Employee of the Month, Reno 911). Read on for more details, including a synopsis.

"Supermax" takes place in a Maximum Security Prison for the Super-Natural as a skilled guard must join forces with a lethal inmate after a riot ensues in order to fight his way through various monsters and mad-men in order to survive.
The script was acquired for a reported six figures.
For those of you who don't know Chris Nelson, his background began in special FX as he's worked on over 35 movies (IMDB) including Return of the Living Dead II, Bordello of Blood, Nightwatch, Species II, Constantine, Sin City, among many others.
The project is being Executive Produced by DeVon Franklin and Doug Belgrad for Sony and also Executive Produced by Sean Robins and Todd Garner for Broken Road Productions.
Shooting is set to begin in early 2010 with more details coming soon.
Nelson and Rouse met on the dark comedy feature "Employee of the Month" (the Matt Dillon one) and went on to star together in the Spike TV series "The Factory".
I wonder how many people realize that this movies is "The Green Arrow" movie ???
This script has been around for awhile and it involves the Green Arrow from the DC Universe and comic books being put in prison and having to fight his way out of a riot. I didn't realize their was any "horror' element to this movie, but there were some rumors that a couple of inmates would be from Batman's rogues gallery, like Killer Croc and the Penguin but I guess we'll see.
Wow. We all bitch about remakes so when an original, no matter what it rips off or is inspired by, gets shit on. I'm curious about this project. It sounds more like a super natural version of Assault on Precinct 13 set in a prison. Fuck the Green Arrow.
battletorn makes a good point. It really depends on how much they amp the horror and the credibility of the prison. If's it's HBO's "OZ" meets "The Monster Squad" then it's gonna be a lot better than trying to cater to the DC comic crowd from a storyline only your Xbox Live group knows about. Greenlight more original horror and stop with all the insepid remakes.
I'm glad this isn't being used as a Green Arrow movie. I liked the storyline, but it just doesn't seem like the right movie to launch a superhero franchise.
I think with Nelson's background and Rouse's background this will hit the right balance of "real" & "un-real" as far as story and look. If the right person plays the main character this could be a big fuckin deal. I agree though, this isn't a superhero vehicle.
I think they realize that. I can't wait.
