It never ceases to amaze me how shocked some folks are that >gasp< successful, well-known films are being remade by studios interested in making money! The horror! Makes one wonder if the cliche about nerds spending too much time in their moms' basements and not getting out of the house is more accurate than people even realize. Movie studios are businesses, businesses are out to make a profit, and remakes continue to be profitable (just as they have been since the days of silent films). Honestly, some of the comments here remind me of the surprised looks on the faces of one-dimensional victims in the umpteenth slasher sequel in any long-running series. Those cardboard doofuses charge right into the woods or old house or rural area where dozens of others have been slain and the killer is rumored to still be at large, yet they can't believe it when a hulking masked man steps out of the shadows and swings an axe at their empty heads. Honestly, how is that any different than visiting a horror movie news site for the millionth time and being blindsided and outraged by the news that yet another obvious remake prospect is getting the update treatment? It may come as a shock to some of you but guess what - studio executives don't feel the same religious reverence for filmmakers and their greatest films that you and I do. They make movies because it's their job, not a passionate hobby. And that job is about making money first, not preserving and/or sanctifying Dario Argento and his classic films.
