RUMOR: 'Halloween 3D' Director Name Being Thrown Around
Tuesday, September 1, 2009

I don't like to post rumors that we haven't checked out yet, but other websites are already reporting the rumor, so we might as well too. A reader by the name of "The Egg Man" e-mailed all of us claiming that they know who is directing Halloween 3D, which was just announced yesterday after a less than stellar opening weekend for Michael Myers. Read on to see what our reader has heard and remember to keep this filed under rumor until we confirm.

From THE EGG MAN:

"I figured I would let you in on a little info that came my way via my agent. I don't know if this is 100% accurate, but if it is, it wouldn't surprise me.

Word is, that the person who will be directing this next film, not only has horror experience, but also has experience with Michael Myers, and 3-D films as well.

I heard that Dimension is in negotiations with STEVE MINER to come back to the franchise. Steve directed Halloween:H20, as well as Friday the 13th parts II and III. Do whatever you want with this info. If you choose to use it, feel free to call me THE EGG MAN.
"

Well, we've got an e-mail out to Mr. Miner and will let you know what he says as soon as he returns. Miner also directed the Day of the Dead direct-to-DVD release from First Look.

The reason I DON'T believe this rumor is that I've been doing some heavy digging since it was announced and have learned that Dimension Films might have actually jumped the gun on the announcement, and still have yet to decide if they're doing it or not.

As always, we'll keep you posted, and remember RUMOR, RUMOR, RUMOR.

I think it might be a good idea if he can do what he did with H20. The guy has directed a few classics.

"Less than stellar opening" or not...the movie has already made a profit, so I'm sure a sequel will be coming no matter what dimension it's filmed in!

PLEASE FOR THE LOVE OF GOD LET THIS RUMOR BE TRUE!

He directed that piece of shit "Day of the dead (2008". Had no clue. He did direct 2 out of the 4 best F13 sequels. We'll see what hes got. If this is true..

yes a new director.i found something funny this weekend people went to FD3 looking for a story and H2 looking for kills its suppose to be the complete opposite.People call zombie a great director when hes only has 3 movies under his belt.1000 corpse was decent rejects was better. He shouldve never touched the Halloween franchise though. We just need a new/old direction.

Steve Miner: Day of the Dead = Crap House = good Lake Placid = quite enjoyable Friday the 13th 2 = LOVE IT Friday the 13th 3 = Like it Halloween H2O = average, but better than 6 & 8 So Miner is not the worst choice...

H20 is, in my opinion, one of the strongest Halloween films. I definitely wouldn't mind if Steve Miner helmed this film.

Steve Miner burned out a long time ago...lets see most recently his films include "Lake Placid" and two terribly bad films that went straight to dvd with the unwatchable "Day of the dead" remake and the Jessica Simpson film "Private Valentine: Blonde & Dangerous"... Id say right now id rather watch Steve Miner direct a sequel to his 1986 film in which a white C. Thomas Howell paints his face black to get into a black school in "Soul Man" than to see him return to the Halloween franchise.

As a Halloween fan, I may have to kill myself if this actually happens. And if the God-awful Steve Miner directs, I'll be taking a few innocent bystanders with me.

'H20'is one of the better sequels after 'Halloween II' (81). On a par with 'Return', and much better than 5, 6, 8, & 'Zombieween' (I haven't seen II yet.) Steve Miner also directed two of the best F13 flicks (parts 2 & 3), and part 3 is one of the best 3D horror films. Obviously there is better directors out there than Miner, but he definitely wouldn't be a bad choice. I'd rather see somebody like Alex Aja, get behind the helm though. But Somehow I don't see that happening!

after Halloween and H2, they better keep Myers the same.. i mean we're used to this new mask n shit they better not throw him in some blue coveralls and give him a brand new white mask! and make it like nothing ever happened in the pass two films !

I think if they do shoot another one, they need to restart the franchise again, but this time do it WELL!!

BTW, I dont know how they will be doing this with Michael. He was shot twice in the first movie (once that grazed his head), then shot twice again in the second, stabbed by some farming equipment, and stabbed about 10 times by Laurie (once in the face). I would pretty well say he's dead (again). Maybe this one will be from Laurie's PoV??

It would be awesome if he returned, but I don't want anymore Halloween's. Halloween is my favorite franchise and I think that a 3D sequel would ruin it. Halloween's have never been the fun, see it for the kills slasher movies, so 3D is completely unneeded.

I love H20, Fpart2 and Fpart3. And in my opinion there hasn't been a good Halloween film since H20 (not that it's a great movie but still very enjoyable). Still I prefer someone else. Aja FTW!

Oh yeah, I forgot to mention before. If this is going ahead, then I would prefer another reboot than a sequel to Rob Zombie's shit! It needs to restart with a complete re-imagining, but bring the character of Michael Myers, and the mythology, back to their roots. They have to take the basic premise, and make their own film out of it; much like the 'Dawn of the Dead' remake. But still at the same time, stay faithful to the original mythos set up in 'Halloween' (1978)& 'Halloween II' (1981). They just have to tell the story in a new, fresh and innovative way. The film will need to detach itself completely from Zombie's mess, so it makes it a long forgotten memory!

how about they just leave Michael Myers alone for a while.... halloween 2 was great but....c'mon...3-D??....thats just retarded

The Dark One

Slashtastic. Stay true to the Mythos of Halloween 1978? Wasn't the Mythos Myers wanting to kill his sister? I think they pretty much did that. The Halloween films have never been rocket science, it's just a big dude in a mask wanting to kill his sister.

would be a great choice in my opinion wish it was craven tho!!

Yeah, the phrase "less than stellar" implies that the movie did not meet its ultimate goal - which, as I've pointed out in more discussions on this site than I care to remember, is to turn a profit. Obviously, any film that makes $2 mil more than it cost to produce in just 3 days of release is going to be very profitable when all is said and done. By comparison, INGLOURIOUS BASTERDS took 10 days in release to recoup its budget domestically (despite much better reviews than H2), and it's considered one of the Weinstein brothers' biggest successes to date. And that bottom line is ultimately what may have led them to consider Miner. Yes, his recent DTV stuff was awful. But when the accountants look at the HALLOWEEN franchise and the name Steve Miner, they see the financial windfall of H20 (and, perhaps by association, his earlier box office success with the FRIDAY THE 13TH franchise). Undoubtedly, the prospect of repeating the fiscal triumph of that entry appeals to a studio determined to stave off bankruptcy. Hell, Dimension hired Rick Rosenthal for RESURRECTION, and what recent successes had he enjoyed prior to returning to Haddonfield?

@ The Dark One. No, 'Halloween' (1978), was Michael Myers fixating on a young woman, who dropped off a set of keys for her estate agent father, at Myers' old house. He just happened to be inside looking at her. He could obviously see his older sister Judith in her looks, and saw her as the goal of his obsession to relive crime. It wasn't until 'Halloween II' (1981), that John Carpenter decided to actually make Laurie The Shape's sister. A decision Carpenter actually regrets! Like I said before, much like 'The Dawn of the Dead' remake, I think they need to take that basic premise, make their own film out of it, and run wild with it. But yet stay faithful to the original Halloween lore. The character of Michael Myers, needs to be returned to the enigmatic unstoppable force of supernatural evil, he once was. The personification of pure evil; devil incarnate. A being with a detached reality; something born of this world, but yet not part of it. The Bogeyman aspect needs to make a comeback also. It's just that how the story is told, needs to be taken in a new direction. Now easy feat for any writers and directors to achieve; staying true to an original vision, but at the same time taking it to a new level. But it isn't impossible! And I think the only way to do this, is to start again with a reboot. Oh yeah, the original Myers wasn't that big to begin with in the first two films, as he was slim and tall. It was fucking Rob Zombie, who made him massive, and textbook 101 serial killer!

this definitely sounds like a rumor...H20 was one of the better sequels, but still, when Dimension said they'd be looking for somebody else other than Rob Zombie, they ALSO said that this new director would have a completely new and different take on the franchise. I don't think a previous director could objectively do that.

If they're going to make another halloween film I think they should start fresh... let Rob Zombies films be a stand alone separate thing. And this time give the series a proper reboot. With all the weird things that have happened in the series I think it would be hard to continue from where Rob left off, or from H8, or H6... As for Steve Miner as a director this is just terrible news... if it's true... looking back on Friday 2 & 3 I have fond memories of watching them when I was a kid... but come on they're not very good... 3 is really terrible... And then if you look at H20 that was a mess... the movie turned out to be a cross between "I know what you did last summer" and "Dawson's creek"... no one seems to remember how bad it was... the mask was terrible (it had to be re-done digitally and still sucked) , they didn't use the halloween theme at all and opted for a theme from scream... there was barely any kills... and no real suspense.... oh but it did have witty dialogue about how being a teenager sucks... and that LL Cool J side plot.... remember - "how did Michael Myers kill you sister?" - "With a really big sharp kitchen knife." Great dialogue if you ask me. If they are going to make another film then why not bring in some new proven talent... like David Slade (30 days of night / hard candy) or Jaume Collet-Serra (Orphan / House of Wax)... maybe they can put Halloween back on the right path.... or at least guys like Patrick Lussier(My Bloody Valentine 3d), Marcus Nispel (Texas Chainsaw / Friday the 13th), or Alexandre Aja (Hills Have Eyes) who have done watchable reboots before...
