TV: MTV Orders 'Teen Wolf' Pilot

MTV's reinvention of the 1980s movie "Teen Wolf" is inching closer to reality with a pilot presentation order. The cable network announced the project in January as part of its development slate. After seeing the script, MTV brass picked it up to presentation. The 1985 film starred Michael J. Fox as a teenager who discovers he is a werewolf. The MTV version will be set in high school, draw from the horror genre to explore werewolf mythology and include a romantic plot line. "It has a fresh take and is very different from the original," said Liz Gateley, senior vp MTV series development. "It has more of an 'American Werewolf in Paris' feel to it. It's a dramatic thriller with two best friends in the center who provide a great comedy element: They are two very relatable characters on the outer circles of popular cliques." The new "Wolf" was written by "Criminal Minds" creator Jeff Davis.

First of all, the fact that MTV is attached to this proves epic fail. MTV hasn't had anything noteworthy on it's channel since the mid-90s(the start was with Road Rules). Since it's become a channel that spams reality-like programming, stuff like "I'm 16 and I'm Pregnant", Made, Cribs and My Super Sweet 16, Laguna Beach and The Hills, it's been in the shitter. The second thing that proves fail is this being likened to "An American Werewolf in Paris". Why!? Why liken it to THAT movie! That movie was CRAP!! It would be like saying, "Oh, this show has the heart and soul of Gigli!".

Yeah when MTV first aired, I remember they past the first song *Video kill the radio star* I was in front and the also played Money for nothing (Dire strait) With Sting saying *I want my MTVVV* Maaaan those were the days!

MTV(and VH1, for that matter) was great back in the day. I think MTV was the first specialty network to "sell out" as far as "milking the modern audiences" was concerned. VH1 followed suit(it actually remained more "music video" oriented until the late 90s). But yeah, I think MTV died when they first released the Road Rules series and turned their back on the true objective of The Real World. Y'know, back when it was about "a social study of REAL people" on opposed to the the "sex sells" method of having pure hot chicks and frat-type boys living together with an endless supply of booze and cameras set up in the bedrooms to record sexual hijinks. That type of "crap for brains" mentality gave rise to The Hills, which features some of the most worthless non-celebrity celebrities to every walk the face of the Earth. Yet people LIKE that shit!

People still watch MTV?

Could be entertaining. I won't be opposed to checking it out. But I don't like the idea of two friends as comic relief. Sure it can be good when done right (like on Buffy The Vampire Slayer), but I have a feeling it could be more like the annoying loser friends in teen sex comedies that are supposed to be funny, but that are painfully not.

eMpTyV needs to change their name. They barely ever show music videos. Now they're showing movies and TV shows for godsake.
