BD Review: 'Halloween II' Problematic, Yet Intensely Entertaining

Last night I caught a midnight screening of Rob Zombie's Halloween II, a film that's just as entertaining a second time around, and who knows, maybe I'll even see it again? "Being in my shoes isn’t easy as technically H2 is loaded with problems, and yet, I had a great time in the theater. In fact, I might even go see it AGAIN in theaters. This speaks to volumes as I rarely (and I mean rarely) see a movie twice. There’s just something about HALLOWEEN II that’s peculiar, odd and even intriguing. Maybe it’s the fact that Zombie made HIS movie instead of OUR movie, or maybe it’s the sheer simplicity and brutality of it all, but in the end I think hardcore horror fans will enjoy this ..." Click the title above for the full review and don't forget to write your own review of the film to tell all of BD what YOU thought. You can read BC's thoughts on the film over at his site Horror Movie a Day.

Seriously!?! I read a review at AICN and it was more in line with what most people will think of the film. My crowd turned on the film too. How anybody could see this twice is beyond me. It was hard once!!!!

Thanks for catching that. Working at a coffee shop with crap internet is driving me nuts. As for H2, read my review, it's pretty much ALL negative, but there's just something about the movie I enjoyed.

To each his own Jay. Depends what you like what you hate and what your expectations are for a slasher flick

Rob did make HIS film and not OUR film...perhaps that's why people are upset.

The reviews are in, read 'em and weep, Zombie delusionists. Next up, get ready to defend his 'Blob' remake minus the eponymous blob.

Hey imagine that, Mr "Sellout" Disgusting loved a movie that he's been whoring out for the past two months. Seriously dude, you once had standards...

i freakin loved this movie. My only real complaint is that the beginning was all a dream. That ruined the beginning. As for laurie I felt no sympathy for her character. I felt like she deserved everything that was happening to her. I was kinda hoping she would get killed when she walked out of the cabin wearing the michael mask. Like having all the cops start shooting her. lol

When people say "his" film (a crappy movie) versus "our" film (our film would be a movie we'd hope to enjoy)

Mr D: I haven't seen it yet, but your review does put my mind at ease, as it articulates just how I feel about all of Zombie's work thus far. I'd be remiss to describe any of his films as "good", but there's something inately captivating about each of them that keeps me entertained and engaged from start to finish (and repeatedly so). In fact, I can say the same for most entries in the 'Halloween' franchise. But I'm a longtime, die-hard Myers fanatic and am looking forward to this one as well.

"As for H2, read my review, it's pretty much ALL negative, but there's just something about the movie I enjoyed." So MrD, what your saying is "they paid me to advertise on my site, so when i watch this film i get a warm fuzzy feeling"?

Mr. D I am really shocked you could give this movie a decent review. It was complete shit. Maybe they were playing the good version of the film at your cinema. Unfortunately I got the complete and utter shit version at mine. I mean I am very forgiving of horror movies because I love the genre. I mean I didn't think F13 remake or TCM remakes were that bad. I thought while the F13 remake was a bad film it was enjoyable and fun to watch. H2 is just pure bad, and it exposed Zombie for being a complete hack with zero style.

i loved it. hated the ending, but the movie was fun. out of the 6 that went 3 of us liked it, and 3 of us didnt. as far as rob making his own movie...its 100% all his. people are either going to hate him for that and bash the movie like crazy, or praise it... on a side note, i didnt really care that loomis died. throughout the movie i felt like brackett was the "loomis" of the film, and hopefully if there is a 3rd he comes back.

I actually agree with this review 100%...there were some serious issues, but there's something about it I really enjoyed, and I look forward to seeing it again...

So, the horror community equivalent of Harry Knowles hates a movie, yet will see it twice. Gee, this doesn't reek of sucking corporate cock as long as the obnoxious banners line your pockets. Mr. D, you and your shit site sucks. You are a VERY, VERY, VERRRRY pathetic little man, who has no backbone or self-respect. Keep stroking that cock, you fucking hack sellout. Keep the Rob Zombies of the world in business to make more shitty movies as long as it fattens your wallet, you sorry sack of subhuman shit.

Ever since Dimension Films took over the franchise has been in serious limbo. Halloween 1-5 still remain my favorites. Yes, and I love H3 as a stand alone film. The one bad thing about H5 that bothers me is that awful blue Myers house. Bad continuity there. H20 I can watch only for Jamie Lee Curtis. Halloween 6 had a mess of problems, but at least has some good suspense and Michael looked scary. Halloween 8 was so bad it hurts. And Rob Zombie's Halloween I just can't get into. Halloween 1, 2, 4 & 5 are still the best Myers films for me.
