Creator Todd McFarlane has officially begun writing the new Spawn film, the second live-action adaptation of his record breaking Image comic book from the early 90's. "I've officially begun writing the SPAWN MOVIE screenplay," he writes on his Twitter. "The story has been in my head for 7 or 8 years. Will continue to update," he promises. "The movie idea is neither a recap or continuation. It is a stand alone story that will be R-rated. Creepy and scary," adding, "the tone of this SPAWN movie will be for a more older audience. Like the film DEPARTED." There you have it, straight from the horses mouth. Thank God for Twitter.

A stand alone story? I think you're going to have to re-introduce the character to practically everyone, so as long as it stays in Todd's hands, it holds promise!!

Sam and Twich will probably be the main characters, while Spawn will be the boogie man. I remember hearing how Todd M said that spawn would have a different look and that he was mostly going to look black and be in the shadows...Honestly i'm all for a new spawn movie, but i dont exactly like the idea of this one. The First spawn movie was mediocre

This is also the exact same crap McFarlane has been "updating" us with for the last 7-8 years. Todd, let us know when something actually happens...

Hopefully if he does indeed bring it, it won't just end up being a movie that focuses more on Sam and Twitch than our boy Spawn. But as long as it retains the feel of the book (seriously, that first movie was as childish as the G.I. Joe movie, the cartoon series was darker), I could be interested.

Because when we think of Spawn, we all think of The Departed...

The Departed??? anyway... Glad to see R rated and not gearing toward the teens just to earn the cash. Interested to see how this turns out but like ultrazilla said, let us know when something actually progresses.

the first movie was fucking amazing. for it's time it blew me away and for a low budgit flick it kicked ass. when i was leaving the theater me and my co workers who worked at that theater at the time were freaking out at how kick ass it was. but i am looking forward to a dark and r possible gumshoe like spawn film. so far i'm very much looking forward to this one. hope it comes around soon.
