UPDATE: Check out pics of Alba and Seagal on the set of Machete. We've got a really solid edition of today's News Bites as the Toronto International Film Festival has announced two new genre films that we've yet to report on (ever). In addition, beyond the break you can read about a potential third X-Files movie (reboot maybe?) and also dig on an international one sheet for Pandorum. Watch for more news as it comes in later today.
LET THE CHEESE FLY ON THE MACHETE SET
Click the image below to see Jessica Alba, Steven Seagal and more on the set of Machete.
The feature version of the trailer finds Machete (Trejo) a renegade former Mexican Federale, roaming the streets of Texas after a shakedown from drug lord Torrez (Seagal). Reluctantly, Machete takes an offer from spin doctor Benz (Fahey) to assassinate McLaughlin (De Niro) a corrupt Senator. Double crossed and on the run Machete braves the odds with the help of Luz (Rodriguez), a saucy taco slinger, Padre (Marin) his “holy” brother, and April (Lohan) a socialite with a penchant for guns. All while being tracked by Sartana (Alba), a sexy ICE agent with a special interest in the blade slinger.

DELIVER US FROM EVIL
Two new films will be making their debuts at the Toronto International Film Festival, one being Ole Bornedal's Danish variation on Straw Dogs entitled Deliver Us from Evil, an almost unbearably intense thriller about a young couple who moves to the countryside and encounters xenophobia, psychosis and murder.
In search of a new lifestyle, Johannes and his wife Pernille leave the city and move with their two children to Johannes´ childhood town in the country. When Johannes´ drunken brother Lars accidently runs over Anna, a local, and plants false evidence pointing at the emigrant Alain, Johannes stands up to defend Alain. But it comes with a price. The town soon reveals its ugly face, as revenge, hatred and xenophobia become the order of the day, turning the life of Johannes and his family into a living nightmare.

HELPING OUT OL' MANSON
Another film having its world premiere at the Toronto International Film Festival is Leslie, My Name is Evil.
Perry, a sheltered chemist, falls in love with Leslie, a former homecoming princess, when he is selected to be a jury member at her hippie death cult murder trial. Perry has always done what is expected of him. He was a straight-A student who got a good job at a chemical company and proposed to his Christian girlfriend, Dorothy. Leslie took a different path after she was traumatized by Kennedy’s assassination, an abortion and the divorce of her parents. She took LSD, joined a hippie death cult and helped murder a God-fearing citizen in her own home. When Perry and Leslie lock eyes in court, Perry is forced to confront the darkest parts of him and by extension, society. LESLIE, MY NAME IS EVIL is a film that explores how the choices Perry and Leslie make reflect upon the moral choices our society has made.

FOREIGN PANDORUM POSTER
Arriving in theaters September 25 is Christian Alvart's Pandorum. Below you'll find a foreign one sheet that looks more like DVD cover art from the 90's.
In the film a young crew member awakes from his hyper sleep chamber to discover he's alone on a massive spaceship. He ventures towards the bridge in search of others and to try and figure out what happened.

SCULLY TALKS X-FILES 3
X-Files News stumbled on to a little news bite that was hanging out on foreign website Dnevnik.
"Of course I would accept to play in a new (third) "X-Files" movie", she said for Dnevnik.hr during the chat with the media and the audience at the last press conference of this 15th edition of the Sarajevo Film Festival.
With this statement, the actress wanted to let people know that she's not bothered with the fact that most of the people call her "Agent Scully" which she has played over a decade in a tv-show and the two feature movies. The third movie, according to her, is in early stages and should be filmed by 2012!"
While they work to confirm the story, here at Bloody Disgusting we can tell you that there is in fact talk about doing another, even though the last film, I Want to Believe, was rated at 32% on Rotten Tomatoes. But looking at the box office number, it's no surprise that they're talking a third film as it took in over $68m worldwide. Something we can add to the story is there is talk of a REBOOT. Are you surprised? Nothing is set in stone, all should be taken as rumor until confirmed.

I really hope they do that movie they were playing around with--the 2012 idea. I miss this show. |
i actually thought X's "I WANT TO BELIEVE" was ok. not "amazing" or anything but like a quiet ep of the show but on the big screen (although the "coupling" of Scully & Mulder doesn't have any semblance of truth to it. they have the chemistry like a brother & sister...)
but as long as they keep the X movies AWAY from the convoluted and confusing Alien mythology storyline and make it more like the incest themed (and amazingly disturbing and awesome!) HOME or any of the stand alone eps (Toombs, etc) i'd LOVE a new X movie! |
How the HELL do you "reboot" the X-Files? Replacing any of the actors will undoubtably make fans mad and letting a new, younger generation of characters take over for Scully/Mulder will no doubt make them angry as well. Don't "reboot" it, just make a sequel. They don't have to call it "X-Files 3" if they don't want to, but studios nowadays don't have to amke everything a reboot just to sound cool, hip, or new. some stuff just doesn't have to be remade/rebooted. I seriously CANNOT wait for Pandorum! |
Agreed, djblack. The dynamics of Mulder and Scully's relationship were handled poorly in the last 'X Files' movie. It just felt like such a dismal rush job. Personally, I'd like to see a return to form with the old alien invasion conspiracy business. A lot left hanging that 'I Want To Believe' did nothing to address. |
I'm definitely up for another X-Files movie. The last one wasn't amazing, but I enjoyed it...the X-Files is always entertaining. :o) |
I for one would love to see some supernatural elements in the next X-Files movie. |
I fucking love x-files... but I was a bit let down by the last movie. I still thought it was good... but not as good as the first. I think a third one would be awesome. |
If they reboot, i will riot in the streets. I love the X-files and i enjoyed the last film. |
The last movie was good, just not great. Maybe it's because they kept the budget low, but it just felt like a long television episode...it didn't have the "wow" factor a theatrical version should have. I say keep the creepiness, but up the action, and have the effects team behind District 9 do the magic. They made a great effects movie for only $30 million! |
X Files is great but, c'mon, the last movie sucked the big one. And $68 mil worldwide also sucks. It only grossed $20 mil domestic and had a budget of $30. Clearly people don't care anymore.
Not that I don't care. Just saying that people have moved on. |
Ben foster is awesome everything he is in especially in 30 days of night good vampire movie! |
Seagal looks fat as hell in that pic. |
Would love to see another X Files. |
I'm giving up on movies if they reboot X-files too. Damn you Hollywood. Damn you to hell. |
The new one doesn't have to be about aliens. Just needs to can the Scully drama and the crying!!. Time to go back to unsolving a creature or a monster. Scully needs to cut her hair short again, looks wayyyyy better with short hair, looks older with long. |
CANNOT WAIT FOR MACHETE!!! Gonna be EPIC, even with Hohan! |
Dennis Quaid is making shit films lately-whats up. Leslie looks cool they should make a new Manson film.something original. |
They might just reboot the X-Files movies series with the original actors but just making it more of a true motion picture movie with a great storyline meant for the big screen. |
Seagal used to be so cool. 'Out for Justice' is one of my all-time, top action movies. It's a sad thing indeed to see what he's become in any of his newer, monthly, straight-to-DVD releases. But this could be a decent role for him, I guess. |
I for one thoughtthe latest X-file film was above average and feel it received a bad rap. As an X-files freak I don't mind a reboot with new characters. Hell, I wanted the series to continue with into season ten with the two new agents brought in during seasons 8 and 9. As for Deliver From Evil, it looks disturbing and interesting. Looking forward to it. I don't care what anybody says, Machete is looking fucking awesome. |
First of all, I love these 'Bite' things. Simple and to the point.
Secondly, I really, really hope they make one final X Files movie that wraps up everything that the final episode led up to. After the abysmal return on IWTB, I thought for sure that would be the end of it.
As for a reboot--screw that. I didnt like it when they introduced Robert Patrick and Gish. And I like Patrick. None for me, thanks. |
I love how Robert Rodriguez now only hires over the hill actresses who will never be anywhere near as hot as where 10 years ago.
Anyway, I can't wait for Machete and a new X-Files movie.
I just really hope the Alba curse doesn't turn Machete into pure shit like 99.9% of her movies. |
i liked the last x-files movie. it wasnt what i thought it was going to be, but i think that is where those characters would be at this point and time. there should of been a sequel years ago, that is what the problem was. A third film would be awsome, but they should go all out this time around. |
