While you were all sleeping, we were busy compiling a bunch of random horror bits, including details on Grotesque being banned in Japan, the latest UK one sheet for Lars von Trier's Antichrist, Paul W.S. Anderson talks about James Wan's version of Castlevania and how you can see the world premiere of the newly restored, colorized and 3-D version of George A. Romero's Night of the Living Dead. Watch for any new stories later this evening as we'll update if anything new breaks.

GROTESQUE BANNED IN JAPAN

It's become increasingly rare for the BBFC (British Board Of Film Classification) to decide to ban a film, but that's what's happened today with the Japanese movie Grotesque (read more about the film here), reports the Movie Muser. Although the reasons behind the BBFC's decision weren't immediately available, if consistent with previous recent rejections it's because of sustained sexual violence, which meant there was no point in them asking for cuts to be made (which is what normally happens), and so they've banned it outright.

This isn't the first film this year getting raised eyebrows over horrific sexual nature as Lars von Trier's Antichrist has been getting some heat, although IFC will release that film intact this October.

Read the entire article on the situation here.

ANTICHRIST UK POSTER

Speaking of Lars von Trier's Antichrist, below you'll find the official UK poster for the film, courtesy of IMP Awards.

Arriving in cinemas October 23rd UNCUT, the English language pic is set in nature and based on the theory that it was Satan, not God, who created the world. In the psychological thriller that evolves into a horror film, Willem Dafoe and Charlotte Gainsbourg will play a couple who retreat to an isolated cabin in the woods following the death of their child.

P.W.A. ON CASTLEVANIA

Since the announcement here on Bloody Disgusting a few weeks ago that Saw co-creator Jame Was would be getting beind the camera for the live-action adaptation of the popular NES game Castlevania, not much has been said. The boys over at MTV caught up with Producer Paul W.S. Anderson who talked a bit more about what we can expect.

There’ll be the whip and there’ll be creatures,” Anderson said, referring to Simon Belmont’s weapon of choice and the mythical beasts he battles as he makes his way through Dracula’s castle in the original video game.

James is doing a pass on the script to put himself into it with the tricks and the traps, which he is really good at,” explained Anderson. “One of the things with ‘Castlevania’ is it’s not just about the creatures but the environment trying to get to you as well. I think he is a terrific choice because a key part of ‘Castlevania’ is the intensity of being trapped within the confines of the castle, and he’s shown with ‘Saw’ that he excels with intensity in confined spaces.

In case you missed it, click here to see what James had to say after our announcement.

TORONTO ZOMBIE WALK TO DIRECTOR'S CUT SCREENING

On October 1st, 1968 George A. Romero, Director of Night of the Living Dead, made “Zombies” a horrific house hold name.

On September 12, 2009, join us for a special Zombie Walk, a “Special Director’s Cut Edition”, to mark the North American premiere of George A. Romero’s Survival of the Dead in the Midnight Madness selection of the Toronto International Film Festival. Aside from paying a fitting tribute to George Romero on the event of his newest film, we will also be celebrating Romero’s recent status as a bona fide Canadian citizen and Toronto resident!

Toronto has truly become the city of the living dead.

Zombie Walk Information:
Date: September 12, 2009
Meet Time: 3 pm
Walk Starts: 3:30pm
End Time: 6 pm

NIGHT OF THE LIVING DEAD GOES 3D

Speaking of Romero, the original 1968 version of the mother of all zombie films, George Romero's Night of the Living Dead, has risen from the dead -- literally -- as the film's 3D conversion is complete and its world premiere is now set, says the press release posted by Market Saw. San Diego based 3D producer PassmoreLab, in conjunction with the Johnny Ramone Army, has confirmed that the World Premiere of the movie will take place at the Hollywood Forever Cemetery in Los Angeles on Saturday, October 3, 2009, as a part of the 5th Annual Johnny Ramone Tribute.

The release continues, "Night of the Living Dead", originally shot in black and white over 40 years ago, was painstakingly restored, colorized and converted, frame by frame into full 3D using Passmorelab's proprietary technology. The process, which took over 12 months to complete at a cost greater than the film's original production budget, was no small feat.

FREE LIVE EVIL SCREENING IN VEGAS

Just in time for Halloween, PollyStaffle.com presents the Las Vegas premiere of Live Evil with a free screening at the Sci-Fi Center. The one time only showing of this independent vampire action film, starring Tim Thomerson ("Near Dark," "Trancers"), Ken Foree ("Dawn of the Dead," "The Devil's Rejects") and Scream Queen Tiffany Shepis ("Chainsaw Cheerleaders," "Nightmare Man") and Lee Perkins, will be October 30th at 9 p.m.

The event will also feature giveaways, and Q&A and autograph sessions with the cast and crew.

Directed by Jay Woelfel and produced by Mark Terry, "Live Evil" tells the story of vampires having trouble surviving in a world where the blood supply has become polluted by drugs and STDs.

The film gets a limited theatrical run starting September 18 via Monogram Releasing and will play 300 screens. It won't be seen in Vegas until Oct. 30 and makes it way to DVD and VOD (video on demand) on November 3.

Grotesque looks grotesque. Antichrist poster is cool even though it's simple. Not getting my hopes up on Castlevania. NOTLD, neat but not sure will like the coloring. Live Evil...ok?

What is it with Anderson and "killer environment" movies? Resident Evil, Event Horizon, and AvP ALL featured "living" structures and environments. Seriously, I'm just hoping Wan remembers what Castlevania is REALLY all about, and that he delivers something that will please old fans, and create new ones.

ANTICHRIST contains STRONG REAL SEX? I've never read anything like THAT on a poster before! A new low in advertising..."COME SEE PROFESSIONAL ACTORS ACTUALLY HAVING SEX!" Well, get with the program, MEGAN FOX! Do CHANNING TATUM on-screen NOW!! It would probably outgross TITANIC in one month! jeeezzzz!

OK, living here in the UK I can tell you that is NOT the official UK poster for Antichrist... it's the artwork used on the foyer cards advertising the film. The official UK poster looks like this: http://www.dreadcentral.com/img/news/jul09/antiquad.jpg... Plus, I really wouldn't get too excited about the penetration - it's quite shot at the start of the film acted out by professional porn actors! Plus, the film itself has been overhyped in the extreme and comes across like von Trier desperately trying to be David Lynch. The majority of the so-called 'troublesome' scenes look incredibly fake, with the blood redder than red. honestly, don't get too excited!

Antichrist looks pretty good. I have to check it out at least once; Grotesque... when watching the trailer it makes me wonder, what the hell is the point of something like that! I really want to see a Castlevania movie but James WAN?!?! Unecessary, this is old time European, not Japanese style.

2:57pm, August 21, 2009

Yeah James just stepped in doodoo with this WAN. Thats not Castlevania. Way to kill the buzz right off the BAT. Oh Im killin myself....

grotesque looks completely retarded... I think all Asian countries should take a break from making horror flicks. They dont even seem to think them all the way through.. They just take an idea that sounds popular and try to amp it to the max. More Ghosts, More Gore, etc.. LAME.. And im excited about Antichrist, although seeing William Defoe penetrate anyone is pretty scary!
