Universal Gets in the Steve Niles Business With 'Criminal Macabre'

Universal Pictures has acquired Criminal Macabre, the Dark Horse Entertainment comicbook miniseries created by Steve Niles (30 Days of Night). Kyle Ward has been set to write the script. The story centers around a supernatural detective who doubles as hitman, taking out all the vampires, ghosts and other unsavory monsters who live among humans, hiding in the shadows by day and emerging at night. Ward was recently hired to script a sequel to "Hitman" for Fox and producers Adrian Askarieh and Chuck Gordon. He also scripted the Lionsgate vidgame adaptation "Kane and Lynch" and "Fiasco Heights," a Universal project that has Michael Bay attached to produce.

Cover's pretty cool, let's just hope it translates well into film.

Give me one good fucking reason why Niles isn't writing this himself? Doesn't bode well.

Word on the streets is that it's gonna be PG-13. We gotta stop that idea in it's tracks!

there's NO goddamn way, they'd better not make this a fucking pg-13 teeny-bopper flick! One of my favorite comics ever man, I always hoped to see a movie of it (preferably directed by either Francis Lawrence, or maybe if they were going for a more cerebral approach David Cronenberg), but i'm not gonna get my hopes up about this being good.

Actually Niles is retaining creative control as a producer. He did write a draft for the script but you know how Hollywood is. Niles said himself, he wasn't allowing this one to get f****ed up. I love Cal and I can't wait to see this personally. Of course I have my fears and reservations but theres no way they can water this one down to PG-13.

I'm telling you guys, as of now their going PG-13. I'm just as pissed as anyone. This is my favorite comic character of all time. if we complain, and producers get word of it, maybe they'll do right by it.
