Cult film veteran Bill Moseley (“House of 1,000 Corpses“) has just completed filming his role as Mayor Buckman (replacing Robert Englund) in director Tim Sullivan’s latest installment of the horror/comedy franchise “2001 Maniacs”. The film, titled 2001 Maniacs:Beverly Hellbillys”, was shot entirely on location in Iowa. You can read more info inside and check out the first ever stills.
According to Sullivan and producer Christopher Tuffin, it is as much a wild re-imagining of the preceding films as a sequel to them. Their intention was to raise the stakes beyond the ordinary glut of by-the-numbers horror releases to create a smart, genre-defying feature that pushes every limit to the extreme. Tuffin compares “Maniacs” to an episode of “South Park” or “The Simpsons” in the sense that “Maniacs” is nothing less than a carnival house mirror held up to American culture.
“Over the years I was approached many times to write and direct a sequel, but I waited until we not only had a storyline that served as a worthy successor to "2001 Maniacs", but also the creative freedom to push the envelope open even further in a smart and funny way," says Sullivan. “Then on the eve of the election of Barack Obama as the nation's first African-American president, I saw the opportunity to once again use the residents of Pleasant Valley as vehicle to expose the deep rooted prejudices of all segments of our society in a way that would hopefully make everyone realize the absurdity of their biases, while also sneaking in a few laughs in at the same time.”
Moseley heads an ensemble cast that includes Lin Shaye (“Snakes on a Plane”), Nivek Ogre (“Repo! The Genetic Opera”), Christa Campbell ..(“Day of the Dead”), Ahmed Best (“Star Wars: The Phantom Menace”), Trevor Wright (“Shelter”) and telenovela vixen Andrea Leon (“Hood of Horror”).
“For horror fans internationally this is a great package – an established franchise, a cult director, a horror veteran like Bill Moseley surrounded by a hot young cast. We are very excited,” says Catherine Quantschnigg, head of sales for IM Global Home Entertainment.
The finished film will be unveiled at this year's American Film Market in November.
What!!!! No Englund I mean come on now the 1st was classic and great, dont get me wrong I love the roles Bill plays as much as anyone, but I just dont see this one especially after I just saw "wild re-imagining" up above.
that sucks,no england...it's not like robert england was just too busy to do this movie,i hope we still get the directors cut tim sullivan was talking about awhile back when this comes out.
No Englund is horrible news. What's with Englund getting replaced in everything? Does he just not want to act anymore? Anyways, I think this will still be good. I'm ready to rent whenever it comes out!
YAY!! I got to be an extra in this film! I had a seen with the very cute Huklebilly. I do wish Robert England would've been in the sequel though. Fun nonetheless.
yeah I really like Bill Moseley, but I don't see him as pull this of as great as Englund. but then again, if Robert really couldn't be involved I'm happy it's moseley and not Jackie Earle Haley. I dunno, we'll see what happens. part 1 was great why not this one.
AND Ohgr!!!
hell JESS!!! this is gonna rock.
i dont care if it sucks..bill mosely and ohgr again together, is awesome..
they have done alot of work together recently. Repo, Ohgr's new album and this..awesome.
I loved the first one so I'll probably watch this regardless. It's a shame they've not got Englund back on board but eh, give me enough gore and I'll look past it.
Really? Englund ? He's overrated. If it wasn't for his role as Freddy he'd be making pancakes. And Scott Spiegel isn't in this one because he was under the table directing the first to clean up the mess being filmed by Sullivan. Film was still crap anyway. And of course Eli Roth had other "things" to do. But to be fair, I like Tim and thought he did a decent job on Driftwood so hopefully this will be alright.
Moseley's better than Englund as Buckman, I promise you. He's much more intense and threatening.
