Lionsgate Already Planning on Eighth 'Saw' Film
Thursday, August 13, 2009

A small piece of news was hiding in the Hollywood Reporter's article about "Clive Barker's Hotel", a new TV series being scripted by scribes Marcus Dunstan and Patrick Melton. "The pair wrote the previous two movies in the [Saw] franchise and also penned the screenplay to this fall's "Saw VI." They are attached to write as many as two of the movies beyond that." This would mean the duo is already set to return for Lionsgate's Saw VIII, which would probably arrive in theaters October of 2011, assuming all goes well with the sixth and seventh film (said to be in 3-D). How crazy is this? EIGHT films! Jigsaw appears to be unstoppable.

October wouldn't be the same without a Saw film, sure people love them and people hate them but I would rather sit through a saw film than most of the shit they put on cinemas these days, plus the Saw films kick ass.

Saw 50 coming soon to a theater near you!

great point timmy. I mean, as much as I hate how they are bastardizing the original film and milking on its success, I have to say, the saw films are better than about 90% of the horror films that are released.

Why stop there fucking lazy lionsgate. They need to release a new saw every month and the next killer of the series could be John's cat that we never knew he had. Seriously they need to stop it's beyond ridiculous at this point.

I loved number 1 but two sucked so much I've so far skipped the rest. where is the time where we had to wait and yearn for a sequel, now they hit you in the head before you're even seen the predecessor.

Wow. The trailer for the original Saw just reminded me why I like it better than the rest of them. Simple yet clever. If there is a Saw 8, bring James and Leah back to bookend the series and finish it off. Not to say these films are that good to begin with but I'm more entertained than any of the Platinum Dunes shit. Those guys claim to love horror when THEY DO NOT. Full of shit motherfuckers.

i do have to say..i think ALL of the SAW movies have been awesome. none have sucked..none i liked more than the others..they are just fun. I just want them to stop so i can buy the damn set and shelf it already! ahaha.

It should have been left as a trilogy instead of maybe a octology (= that´s a row of 8).

Good one Werd5150, I want to buy the set too, but I also want them to continue doing them. And now they're planning on an eighth SAW, WOW! I just love how they continue to bring them out every year. When was the last time we saw a series go this far? I'm too damn excited.

If anybody in Hollywood had the balls to release a decent horror flick at Halloween that could knock these damn SAW movies off the hill, maybe they'd stop making them.

I love the Saw series, but I think that, like everything, it has its limits. Eight movies would be the limit, in my opinion. Especially since, by then, they should have covered everything they possibly could by then (including a 3-D movie!) But as long as they keep being good and successful, I see no reason why they shouldn't stop. But that's 2 whole years away so let's get through Saw VI first, shall we?

I loved the original Saw - it was the best theatre reactions I've ever seen. I thought Saw II - IV all had some interesting moments that redeemed them in some way, shape, or form. Then they brought Saw V to life and it was easily the most forgettable in the series. I feel like they've lost any kind of cohesion in the series. Now it's just a yearly tradition that gets green lighted because it's a cash cow. The films will lose their thunder and we'll see a remake around 2020...

There are going to be 9 of them FYI.

wow, 9 of them....(yawns.,rolls eyes)....the saw is family, and the children are all bastards.

The original was great, 2 mediocre, 3 had some memorable kills and traps, and everything since I can't even think of thanks to the ridiculous story. I used to wish this generation had another horror franchise to count on every year like Friday the 13th was in the 80's, but this sucks.

SpikeGhost
4:30pm, August 13, 2009

Well it's pretty much like all those horror series from the 80's like A nightmare on elm street, Friday the 13th etc. they keep making them until they don't make any money anymore. and they don't cost a lot to make, so yeah.

ScaredStiff
4:31pm, August 13, 2009

Wow, and I thought Friday the 13th's run of 8 theatrical releases in 10 years was impressive. Saw's gonna be 8 for 8!
