TIFF '09: A Whopping 26 Images From Romero's 'Survival of the Dead'

With the world premiere only a month away, a whopping 26 images were released from George A. Romero's Survival of the Dead (promo trailer), his latest zombie pic that involves inhabitants of an isolated island off the North American coast who find their relatives rising from the dead to eat their kin. The leaders of the island feud over whether or not to kill their reanimated relatives or preserve them in hopes of finding a cure. You can check out all of the new images below.

On a small island off North America's coast, the dead rise to menace the living. Yet...the islanders can't bring themselves to exterminate their loved ones, despite the growing danger from those the once held dear. A rebel among them hunts down all the zombies he can find, only to be banished from the island for assassinating his neighbors and friends. On the mainland, bent on revenge, he encounters a small band of survivors in search of an oasis on which to build a new life. Barely surviving an attack from a mass of ravenous flesh-eaters. They commandeer a zombie-infested ferry and sail to the island. There, to their horror, they discover that the locals have chained the dead inside their homes, pretending to live 'normal' lives...with bloody consequences. What ensues is a desperate struggle for survival and the answer to a question never posed in Romero's Dead films: Can the living ever live in peace with the dead?

and i just realized that in the pix it gives away a MAJOR SPOILER that one of the main characters becomes one of the UNDEAD. just a warning to those who DO NOT want anything spoiled.

night, Dawn and especially DAY are all classics. Land was mediocre, and Diary was just terrible. And Survival looks to have the crappiest looking zombies yet. Why in the hell didn't he hire Savini to do the work? The Zombies in Day looked freaking amazing....Now they just look like normal people in this one with some scrapes on their faces...Pretty damn bad, just like the trailer. Romero has lost it

The only reason you think they look better, is because of the quality. I'm really hoping they just found the wrong guy to cut the trailer and that's why it looks the way it does.

I agree that Mr. Savini should have done the effects, it really would have made the zombies look alot better, all these zombies look too fresh.

Land was one of the worst zombie films ever...was it even meant to be serious at all? Smart zombies that communicate by grunting and screeching? A zombie leader? Zombies that somehow WALKED underwater? LMAO! Pure crap! Diary was a little better, but that guy in the mummy outfit was a joke of a zombie actor. The trailer for this one looked bad, but it can only go uphill from Land.

In the 16th pic (the overhead view of a zombie eating a guy), it looks like the plaid-shirted "Hangar" zombie in Dawn Of The Dead (original).

I'm pretty excited about this one. Though the trailer looked cheap, the pics are great, and it looks as if Romero's great cinematography might be on display here. I loved the first four (yes, even Land), but Diary was pitiful. Here's hoping that removing the silly first-person cam gimmick frees Romero up to give us a great, character-driven, beautifully-shot film. If it does turn out to be garbage, though, at least we have the original trilogy to fall back on.

It's damn depressing to see Romero go down the shitter like this but after Land and the idiotic Diary I'm officially done with the old fucker's dumb ass movies. You people can't honestly say that even one of those zombies looks cool or scary in any way. The plot and the acting will make it even worse. Sad indeed R.I.P. Romero.

I liked Night, Dawn and freakin love Day of the dead and yes I am a fan of Land, but Diary was ok. Not the best. This looks promising..The trailer sucks but it was just a promo anyway. The pics of some of the zombies look good not bad, this looks like Romero is stepping back abit to his days of Dawn..Lets hope
