I don't want to cover this, especially since there's really not a lick of horror in it, but the rash of e-mails and tweets have indicated you guys want to know more about it. So here it is, the trailer debut for Cirque du Freak: The Vampire's Assistant, which hits theaters on Ocotber 23rd. Directed by Paul Weitz, the film stars John C. Reilly, Ken Watanabe, Chris Massoglia, Josh Hutcherson, Patrick Fugit, Ray Stevenson, Michael Cerveris, Frankie Faison, Jane Krakowski, Orlando Jones, Kristen Schaal and Salma Hayek (as the bearded lady, ewwww).

The Vampire's Assistant tells the frightening tale of a boy who unknowingly breaks a 200-year-old truce between two warring factions of vampires. Pulled into a fantastic life of misunderstood sideshow freaks and grotesque creatures of the night, one teen will vanish from the safety of a boring existence and fulfill his destiny in a place drawn from nightmares. 14-year-old Darren (Chris Massoglia) was like most kids in his suburban neighborhood. He hung out with his best friend, got decent grades and usually stayed out of trouble. But when he and his buddy stumble upon a traveling freak show, things begin to change inside Darren. That’s the exact moment when a vampire named Larten Crepsley (John C. Reilly) turns him into something, well, bloodthirsty.

I mean, if you're covering Twilight, then this is fair game.

Looks great. Fans of Harry Potter mixed with Fans of weird and bizzare. More humorous than I was expecting. That is a plus. As weird as I was hoping. That is a plus as well.

I think this film sounds peachy-keen.

This looks awesome! I was hoping it would be a lot darker though. Oh well.

I knew they couldn't make it as hard and rough as the books....but I don't know about this..I was a big fan of the books, but this seems too Harry Potter-ish....just like baronterror said....Hopefully it gets darker like the HP movies did...

You don't want to cover this, but you will cover Twilight?

I agree with the others...you won't cover this but you have no problem covering that twilight shit? There's no horror in that shit either...good job making yourself look like an idiot.

I also agree with everyone. If you are going to cover something as brutal as Twilight, then you may as well cover this. It actually looks kind of fun.

You know, with this and Twilight, seeing an adaption of Vampire the Masquerade Bloodlines would be rather refreshing.

I think it could be a fun time. I'm sure I'll get a laugh or two...Maybe

I agree with the HP feel, but it almost had a Wizard of Gore feel to it...until it got a little campy toward the end. So hopefully the movie has more up its sleeve than just the trailer!

I'm truly disappointed in you, Mr. Disgusting - between this and the stealing of Chainsaw Awards according to Fangoria, my respect for this site has dwindled to the point I may not continue my patronage here. Now, this outright attack on fans of CIRQUE DU FREAK - which is a really fun book series with a lot more in common with classic horror than, say, SAW ... well, it doesn't look good for you all who're attacking it. This book series is like a young adult version of NIGHTBREED, and you can tell from the movie they've captured that spirit. Plus, dude, it has John C. Riley as A VAMPIRE LORD! "I ... I like to think of Vlad the Impaler as a baby, wearing a tuxedo, with all his vampire Mommies around him giving him blood bottles."

fuck man, ive read all the books.. this looks like shit. i hate the campy comedy they're going for...

See, as has been said, if you can cover Twilight you can cover this. Warring vampire factions, a kid being turned by Dewey Cox, sideshows freaks and Salma Hayek with a beard? The horror's right there. Things like this and and shit, even Twilight are going to bring younger fans into our world and that should be encouraged. Even if the films turn out to be shit, the intrigue is still there and that'll get 'em hooked. That said, am I the only one who finds the poster strangely disturbing? That kids eyes look right through me.

Not a lick of horror? In the second book, someone is SLAUGHTERED by a werewolf. You're really quick to cover all the Twilight bullshit, including the stupid drama with the casting, but something that's actually Young Adult horror isn't horror enough for you?

Horror is horror - kids who read this will one day see THEY LIVE. Enjoy life!

This will be one of those movies that's too odd for theatrical success but will have a great dvd run.I'll see it in theaters but most People who think Transformers 2 is a well written movie won't get it,and probably will condemn it.

Cique du Freak is a good book. So are the sequels. Bizaare, imaginative, even strolling into apocalyptic wierdness. They're the best thing to happen to children's horror since Goosebumps in the 90s. Bring it.
