Bloody-Disgusting spoke to action heroine Milla Jovovich this morning at the press day for A Perfect Getaway. With the recent announcement of a September 2010 release date for Resident Evil 4: Afterlife, we asked Jovovich what’s in store for Alice in the fourth movie and what the 3-D will mean for the franchise. Not only does she break the news on her starring role, but she had a lot more to tell us!
"Does everything on me have to come out on Bloody-Disgusting?" Jovovich jokes of her regular appearances on BD. "I’m the lead role [again]," says Jovovich. "There’s the clones and it’s going to be a lot of work. I’m gonna be working every day for the next four months on this and it’s gonna be bigger than ever. It’s super-exciting."
As usual, the specifics of the plot are under wraps for now, but Jovovich tiptoed around the details to tell us as much as she could. "I would feel a little bit weird giving you too much information about the character," she tells BD. "Let’s just say this. The clones are definitely in it. You’ve got multiple Alice’s kicking serious butt. And definitely the real Alice has some pretty major things happen to her that change the stakes a little bit. That’s probably all I can give you in a vague sort of way. It’s definitely going to be a different Alice than who we’re used to."
The same team that did the 3-D work on James Cameron’s AVATAR will be working on RESIDENT EVIL 4: AFTERLIFE. For now, Jovovich is leaving that intense prep work to her husband, Paul W.S. Anderson, who returns to direct part four. "I have no idea about the 3-D process," Jovovich says, laughing. "Paul just signed a deal with the people Cameron used on AVATAR because they impressed him the most. [Paul] has basically seen like every 3-D movie ever made in the last two months to prepare for it. We’re definitely using all the best equipment. All the storyboards are centered around how to make the 3-D the best it can be. We’re really trying to use that medium to its fullest."
In terms of whether this will be the final RESIDENT EVIL movie or if a part five will surface down the line, Jovovich says that’s up to the fans. "You know, it depends," she says. RESIDENT EVIL is one of those things that is very much based on how well the last movie did. The last movie did very well, so of course the company wants to make another one. These films are very organic in that sense. It’s not like a HARRY POTTER machine in the sense that it’s already this huge thing and they make three movies at the same time. For us, we make one movie, we give it an interesting ending and if the fans are like, ‘We want to see what happened. We want to see the next one’ and the studio gets enough mail and there’s web site interest then we’re like, ‘Yeah, let’s make another one.’"
As for returning to the role of Alice again and again, Jovovich says she if happy for the work and the chance to dip into the intense action scenes every few years. "You know what, every two years I get a steady job and as an actor [and] that’s a huge relief. Then I get to do all my little independent movies that no one sees. I get more versatile things for myself. And then, every couple years you get the RESIDENT EVIL to kick your butt and get you in shape and it’s fun and exciting."
We’ll have more from Jovovich on her role in A PERFECT GETAWAY from our exclusive interview next week.
I love Milla and I love the Resident Evil movies. Hopefully part four doesn't get too out of control. As for the 3D? Fuck it. You don't need 3D to make a good movie.
Like these movies a lot more when I look at um as not being Resident Evil (but hey the games R starting 2 turn 2 crap anyway). Not sure about the clones in the movie though.
These movies are pointless they keep getting lamer and lamer and the only reason Milla keeps doing the Resident Evil movies is because she can't get real roles to play

Milla has been in along of movies, wtf are you people talking about. lol. 5th Element any body? i thought she was kick ass in that. That being said, i do love the games more then the films.
I do think that one day, they should start over with the story from the first game.
Milla Jovovich is so super damn sexy and awesome in these films, roll on part 4!!! you cant make a res evil film without her now, she's the ripley of the series.
The first Resident Evil was pretty fucking sweet. Unfortunately for me I did watch the second and yes the third one too and ive got to say they suck ass! I mean Milla Jovovich is pretty hot and I would like to stick my finger in her butt, but I would rather hit myself in the nuts with a hammer than see another resident evil movie! I dont understand why they have to try to milk movies for everything that they are worth knowing that the movie is going to be dog shit! Not that I have to wish for it or anything but this movie will not make its money back and will bomb at the box office unless they are smarter than I think and put this shitty movie straight to dvd!
I don't really give a rat's ass for Milla one way or the other, but I happen to be a fan of these movies, though moreso of the games. (Though RE 5 sucks, IMHO) But I agree, the game has had nothing to do with the movies except the beyond-awesome laser room from RE 4.
I hate how if you watch a 3-D movie in 2-D format, you know it's supposed to be a 3-D film, however, I do love the games and the movies are pretty good and Milla Jovovich is God so I will definitely be seeing this.
I've been a fan of the RE series since i first played it back in the 90's on the orinal ps.. I can say the movies aren't totally in sync with the games, but they are entertaining. I mean most of the main characters are involved in the story, i think the clone idea could be a bomb though, but i guess i should wait on more details to see where they are going with this one...I mean where's Chris Redfield, come on!!..he started the series with Jill Valentine, who didn't appear till the 2nd movie, i mean it would be nice!!..Oh, i love Milla by the way, all u that bash her, stop hating!!..she's been in a dozen movies besieds RE and she is so hot!!
Though I don't judge an actor/actress by his/her personality, it's nice to know that there are a few nice, down-to-earth people like Milla. That being said, I must agree that this series has been a little shaky, an off-the- course the games have set. Still, I kinda like the original approach as well and believe the majority of the people who go and watch these don't know or care about the games they're based on. Paul Andserson is returnig which is a good sign, at least for the series and we still have the maestro George A. Romero's Surival of the Dead coming up so I'm happy to be able to watch all of them. Why shouldn't I be happy?
