Radical Pictures is moving fast and making some huge plays. At the San Diego Comic Con they announced that Darren Lynn Bousman will be delivering Abattoir as a comic franchise and then adapting it into a feature film, they also revealed that Len Wiseman (Underworld) is developing Shrapnel, now Tron Legacy director Joseph Kosinski is developing Oblivion, based on his own concept, as a feature for Radical Pictures. David Fincher will be producing the project, which you can read all about inside.

From The Hollywood Reporter:

Kosinski has signed to direct the action feature and will produce along with Radical principal Barry Levine, filmmaker David Fincher and Anonymous Content's David Morrison.

"Oblivion" also will become an illustrated novel, Radical Publishing's first venture beyond comic books, done in a format featuring 40 fully painted landscape images that will accompany the prose.

The story centers on a battle-damaged soldier who, assigned to a desolate planet after a court-martial, patrols the bleak landscape in an effort to destroy the last vestiges of a primitive alien race. When a mysterious traveler arrives unexpectedly, their lives become inextricably linked as they are forced to question everything they know about this world and themselves.

Radical's Jesse Berger will executive produce.

Kosinski began "Oblivion" when he moved to Los Angeles four years ago, coming up with the concept as something to kick-start a feature directing career.

"I was looking to make a science fiction film that I could do on a budget," Kosinski said of the initial concept. "It's grown since then, but it's intended to be a very spare science fiction film, with a small cast but big ideas and big landscapes."

Kosinski met Levine during the recent WGA strike. Kosinski was impressed with Radical's graphic novels and high-end art, and conversations led to "Oblivion" being turned into a book and film.

Radical Pictures has a large slate of feature films being developed from Radical Publishing titles, including the recently set up "Shrapnel," with Len Wiseman directing and producing, and "Abattoir," with Darren Lynn Bousman writing, directing and producing.

Other titles include "Caliber," set as a co-production with Johnny Depp's Infinitum Nihil shingle; "Hercules: The Thracian Wars" at Spyglass/Universal, with Peter Berg attached to produce with an eye to direct; and New Regency's "Freedom Formula," to be produced by Bryan Singer's Bad Hat Harry Prods.

Kosinski, repped by WME and Anonymous Content, is entering a long postproduction process on the effects-heavy "Tron," now slated for a 2010 holiday season release.
